E92 N54 new engine codes ??

Hey all, so this morning I started up the car and idle was really rough. A half-engine light turned on, and ran the JB4 app to check the codes. Car did not have this issue previously till now.

2A82: inlet-Vanos variable cam control test
3100: low boost mode

I replaced both Vanos Solenoids with new ones around 2.5 weeks ago and has been running great up until this morning.

I’m thinking either, faulty/defective? Or just dirty and try cleaning it. I do have lifetime warranty on the Vanos from the vendor I purchased it from.

Any ideas? Seems like my car is having one issue after another. SMH

Thanks!

You replaced both Vanos? You mean solenoids I assume. Was that due to Vanos fault code? If yes probably cam ledges are worn out.

Yes I replaced both Vanos solenoids with new ones a few weeks ago for preventative maintenance measures. Originals didn’t have codes, but also threw them away.

I’m thinking of switching the vanos solenoids to see if the codes follows to the exhaust side. If so, then it’s the vanos solenoid itself. But if code remains the same. Then could be something else, as you mentioned Cam Ledges or maybe Cam position sensor?

I would switch them from one to the other to see if the code follows. In the future I don't recommend throwing away working parts or replacing non-maintenance parts for that matter.

I will certainly keep that in consideration for sure next time. Checking online the cam ledges aren’t cheap either roughly ~$400 each!

What’s the next step if the code doesn’t follow? I’m going to do some wrenching on the car soon as I get home.

So I just removed and cleaned both Vanos Solenoids, then switched them around to see if the code followed. Turned the car on, and idle was smooth again! I turned the JB4 app on, cleared the saved codes. Ran the code check again, and NO codes!

What the heck is going on? SMH Lol

I also checked the vanos check valves. They weren’t covered up in sludge, and looked decent, but gave them a thorough cleaning. And everything is running smooth. I feel like the idle got a tad smoother.
