New entry-level DSLR Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS
Canon has announced the EOS 1000D, a new entry-level DSLR that slots into the model lineup beneath the 450D. The 10 megapixel digital camera, known as the Digital Rebel XS in the US, takes many of the new features of its big brother and presents them in a lighter, less expensive format that Canon hopes will re-shape the market in the same way as the first Rebel (300D) did. No word yet from Canon US about their intentions.

I think this camera will be great for beginners (like me). It has a lot of the features that the XTi has and some. A few features are detuned a little bit but it's not a big deal.

It's supposed to be approx $200 less than the XSi, but right now they are being sold for only about $50 less. I guess we won't see that much of a price difference until they are widely distributed.

Agreed. XSi sells for $776 on Amazon while the XS is $699. I'm sure XS will go for less on Amazon making the price difference about $150 or so.

7point focus? yuck, vs the 9point focus that XTI and XSI has? This should be a very good entry level tho. Especially it supporting SD. It should be entry-entry level. I dont exxpect it to be so expensive. It should be same price range as XTi. I hear the XSi has been dropping all around, also the XTi as well and I have definitely seen the 40d dropping. I think this is to make way for that 50d.

DP Review is da bomb! I've been using that site for more than 7 years, since my $1000 point and click Nikon Coolpix 990.

I didn't see the point in buying the XS instead of the XSi, for only a $30-$50 difference. Maybe eventually they'll drop more in price, and then it will be clearer.
