How many believe this? I've thought there was something going on for at least the last 10 years. I've seen too many games where you could just tell it was going to be impossible for one team to win no matter what happened, and it was usually in a game that would tighten a series back up if they lost.

I really hope this gets investigated.

The NBA is definitely a rigged league and that lottery draft is the biggest bunch of bologna I've seen in my life. There's no way Chicago won first pick with 1.6 or something % chance. They even stopped showing the balls being drawn from the machine. Last year i think they knew ahead of time that this Boston deal was going down and purposely didn't give them the 1st pick. Especially after that boring and poorly rated finals between San Antonio Cleveland they needed this "historic" rival between Boston and the Lakers to gain some ratings...

the longer the playoffs go, the more money people make. . . . . .so this year, the lakers have to give up a few games to keep it going. Otherwise, theres no fun in the lakers beating the celtics everytime....

its not just vegas...underground gambling prbly tops vegas

just the bookies I know in the Boston area can range from $100k - $500k...just in this block

As Phil Jackson suggested, the best way to fix this is to make refereeing a totally separate entity outside of the NBA.

Yep, NBA gave him 3 rings first and then decided that he wasn't needed anymore so gave him some time off so he can go play baseball. However, realizing no one watched anymore basketball after his departure, they summoned him back and let him win another 3.

NBA referee Bob Delaney, one of three referees to work Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals, told Bob Ley in an interview for ESPN's "Outside The Lines First Report" that he has never been contacted by NBA or federal investigators concerning allegations by former referee Tim Donaghy that two referees in that game intended to assure that series went seven games.

Delaney, a highly-decorated former New Jersey State trooper, said: "This is not the first time a known or convicted criminal has lied about me before the judicial system. I have an extensive law enforcement background, and still train police officers. I have dealt with criminals and informants, and I know full well they are capable of doing and saying anything. I cannot comment any further without permission from the NBA."

NBA commissioner David Stern, prior to last night's NBA Finals Game 3, said the Justice Department had fully investigated the most recent Donaghy's claims.

An NBA spokesman said the league is aware of what Delaney told Ley, but the league has yet to respond to ESPN's request for comment.

In other news, only 91% of NBA fans believe that refs fix games. The other 9% are fans who believe 'the other team just didn't play hard enough' and ESPN analysts clamoring for ratings.

Basketball fans were outraged Wednesday at ex-referee Tim Donaghy's claims of game-fixing - even as NBA Commissioner David Stern tried to strike back.

Many hoops-watchers said they believe Donaghy's bombshell charges that NBA honchos ordered refs to favor superstars and extend a playoff series to lucrative do-or-die games.

"It's getting like pro wrestling," said Anthony Jimenez, 23, of Brooklyn. "It's a major scandal that the NBA might not be able to recover from."

More than 91% of Daily News readers who responded to an online poll said they believed Donaghy's claims about game fixing.
