I think we finally found a way to avoid all threads going off topic! Except for the one dude who had the guts to suggest cowbells didn't deserve one of their own!

As a bass player myself ... finally a meaningful musicianship thread

With you on Entwistle, but have to word in for Jack Bruce and one can't ignore the brilliance of Geddy Lee.

Although, one of my favourite bass lines of all time is Randy Meisner on Hotel California.

Nice. Been playing for over 30 years myself.

Geddy is always near the top. Take the word "rock" out and we have to include Jaco.

I always loved Townshends quote about John " he changed the fucking instrument"

Les is a hell of a basist and showman. Funny guy for sure.

I would compare how he plays bass to how Keith played drums.

Entwistle is the Jimi of bass....

Jaco's pretty incredible but there's so many great bass players whose work I love. If you're stepping out of rock, then I have to mention Charlie Mingus.

Well, in my opinion, one must be in a 3 man band for the most part so for a lead bass, gotta be Jack Bruce. But above all, may I say this, if I was starting a band again, it would have to be Paul McCartney. That guy is awesome without a doubt.

Yes, you're right; and honestly I never knew this. Hell I just listen to the music. Thanks.
