BSM Car Gets Dusty Quickly

Anybody know why my Black Sapphire Metallic car gets dusty so quickly? I got a car wash a few hours ago and it's been parked under a tree for the past few hours. Anyone know how I can prevent this? Car washes seems pointless to me now as this ALWAYS happens.

Because it's Black Sapphire Metallic.

Seriously, though...you didn't expect this when you bought a black car? You might consider one of those California Dusters, never had one, so I don't know how effective they are.

I didn't know. I had a white one previously.

By the time I dry the back of the car, the front is already dusty. If you made a few hours your doing well.

So you went from easiest to keep clean, to hardest.

I had a black car once, so you have my sympathy. Even my Mineral Grey F32 shows a good amount of dust, but a lot of it blows off with a good sprint on the highway.

I had one (my last) white car and many black cars.

I found just the opposite.

Dust really shows on white, IMO.

I suppose it all comes down to the color of the dust.

The only time my car (also BSM) looks clean was in the show room before I picked it up. It went down hill from there. I will stick to AW if I were to buy another BMW vehicle.

Any link to the one you have? I bought one and it makes marks on my car.

If it's a paraffin-coated duster like the California ones, I've read you need to lay them on newspaper or paper grocery bags before using them.

This is the duster but I didn't get (or forgot about) the wipes. I can't attest to those but the duster is very good.

This is the first car that I have actually detailed, and it really helps. A regular car wash will only clean it, but a good sealant or ceramic coating will help it stay cleaner, longer. The only times I really get annoyed is during early spring when it gets covered in pollen, but usually a lot of it comes off when driving.

Also if you want to dust it, use a quick detailer and a microfiber towel. Don't just drag a duster across the dry paint. yikes.

Its rea simple. Dust shows up more on darker cars. A white or light car has the same amount of dust if driven exactly the same. You just do see it as much.

I can guarantee that any color gets dusty just as quickly as any other color. I have never heard of one color attracting more dust then others. Dark obviously shows more, but,a white car would have just as much dust. Try a cover and don’t park under a tree. Or move to a farm 50 miles from NYC. Lanmodo.com has an umbrella for your car. Good good gadgets sells them.

My California duster works quite well. Does not scratch my BSM paint. The duster actually gets better the more you use it. Highly recommended for quick "dust-offs" between washings.

I'll probably try the duster that was linked. I don't have much of a choice sometime there's trees everywhere near where I work so that's not an option. Maybe I'll buy a detailer and use it with the cloth whenever I see it dusty. Will using the detailer and cloth / duster rub anything into the paint?

That's a big issue with black cars. It's one of my favorite colors to have, but it gives me massive anxiety because of what you're dealing with so i can no longer own a black car as much as i love it... especially when it's washed and driven at night. Don't use the duster or detail spray on the car it will eventually scratch the paint i would drive it first to let the wind blow the dust off naturally then use the duster and detail spray with a microfiber towel.

All color cars will get the same exact dust on it, the color doesn't matter. Its that the color black and some other dark colors show it more to the eye.

No, just spray the paint and the towel and wipe. The main thing you need is to use the detailer as lubrication. You never want to wipe dry towels on a dry car. That's what lives swirls and marks.

I would never use a California Duster, especially on a dark car. The wax-impregnated cloth grabs the dirt & dust, which you then scrape across the finish. You're supposed to dangle the duster just above the paint.
