Any cheapass motorcycle out there?
It might sound funny, but Im planning on buying a cheap ass motorcycle that I can learn how to ride motorcycle.
I want one that doesn't look like a scooter. haha I plan on spending no more than $7000. Cheaper the better. EDIT: forgot to mention, it must be a motorcycle where two people can sit!!!!!! (comfort is not something im asking for. As long as I can "transport" an extra person)

The new Kawasaki Ninja 250 R makes a compelling argument at $3,499 brand new. Its a 250 but looks like a 500, and its lightweight, well equipped, looks great and has a low height, a great bike for novices.
Google up the reviews I'm kinda looking at this as well

Even though I had an '06 636, I was able to try out the 250. It's definitely not the fastest bike on the market but, it can still hold it's own...

I just bought this bike back in January for my first bike to learn how to ride on. I wanted a small bike, that was cheap, and didn't look like a joke and the 2008 250R was the best choice I could ever make. Let me know if you have any question on it. |

the 250R has a very high resale value, very sought after bike for beginners...you can pick up a used one, ride it around and sell it for very close to what u got it for...

Cheap is subjective..........$7000 will buy you a cheap ass and beat up Harley or Chopper

If you were to compare a 250 to a car in terms of straight line speed.......what league is it in?

its not that bad...
I was thinking civic Si? : Its a weird question though...there are many more variables to consider like purpose and weight. Even a 125cc bike can be fast.

First suggestion:
Take the class offered by the motorcycle safety foundation. The basic course is for people who want to learn to ride a bike (even if they don't put it in as many words). http://www.msf-usa.org/ There is a lot more to riding a motorcycle than just hoping onto one and practicing by yourself. I **HIGHLY** recommend the course. Second suggestion: Don't buy a 250cc bike--you'll outgrow it in about 8 days. Instead, buy a 600cc bike that doesnt have a ton of HP. My suggestion would be a Yamaha FZR600. You can probably pick up a `96-98 FZR in good shape for about $2-3k. (Edit) Third suggestion: Don't buy a new bike as a first bike. Buy used so when (not if) you drop it, it won't be that big of a deal. Also, cheap bike is okay but don't go too cheap when buying gear. |
