Detroit Autoshow moves from January to June in 2020

DETROIT (AP) — Organizers of the North American International Auto Show say that starting in 2020 the annual Detroit event will take place in June instead of January.

A statement from the show Monday says the new schedule will enable automakers, industry suppliers and others to "deliver dynamic exhibits and experiential opportunities outside of the show's four walls" at downtown's Cobo Center.

The show will be held during more-favorable spring weather, rather than in winter. Organizers say the change also will help cut costs, since exhibitors won't be setting up during the Thanksgiving to New Year's Day holiday period.

The show's Executive Director Rod Alberts says in a statement that "Detroit will continue to be a global stage for some of the world's most significant and iconic vehicle reveals."

Years overdue. I always hated going to that nasty downtown during the nastiest month of the year. Attendance has been at an all-time high but with the press and luxury automakers fleeing to CES they had to do something. Audi's departure shocked me the most as they have a corporate office in the region.

Hopefully the Germans and likes of Land Rover and Porsche return in the future as the show is just not worth visiting without. Yes metro Detroit is dominated by the Big 3 but there are some pockets of extreme wealth where these luxury makes are common. There are like 4-5 dealerships for each of these brands in the area so there is a market.

It will get better... you have Grand Prix and a few other big events held in June.. So if they do it right they will string them all together... Tons of other activities ongoing around the same time. Plus great weather

A solid win

Way overdue moving it to warmer months but I think the show has seen its best days in the past. I looked over the plans for the show in the Detroit Free Press and it seems to be headed towards being more of an outdoor party event rather than a car show and less emphasis on the cars moving forward.

Also, if the German manufacturers don't return to the show, forget it.

Typically everybody just drives downtown, parks within 5 minutes of Cobo, walks in and out then leaves. Having the show in June will be much more beneficial for the city's reputation along with local businesses because people will actually walk around the city and enjoy what it has to offer. It will be a true event showcasing the city rather than something the press had to drag themselves to.

I won't be attending in 2019 as it will again be in the dead of winter and not have any of the brands I give a shyt about. Hopefully the Germans return.
