I told my dealer i did NOT want my bumper drilled. But they wouldnt let me take off with my car unless it was. They had some big controversy with a former client and they sued the dealership. So unless they were feeding me a lie, then i had no choice. So i put the silver bmw roundel on front. But im planning to take it off, just dont want drill holes

My dealer installed mine and drilled rather gnarly holes in my bumper without telling me and then handed me a form to sign indicating that I acknowledged the install. I was really irritated but just ended up taking the plate mount off. Good thing my car's black
and yes I'll just wait for a ticket

I dont get this. I have lived in states that do not require a front plate and ones that have. Whats the big deal with you guys about having a front plate? It does not take anything away from the car.

PA doesn't require one. There's nothing on my e90 (no plate holder or holes) and my e46 has a black plate with a roundel badge in the middle... only because the car came with the holder.

After I put the order through, I told the salesman not to put it on.
He first said he can't do that, law requires for them to do it. They can get sued for it. I gave up, but a member in E90POST who is local in my area told me he told the salesman that he'll take full responsibility for it, and they didn't put it on. so I did the same, and the salesman made sure my front bumper wasn't drilled. salesman did tell me "Just remember I reminded you to put it on ok?" I guess its serious for them. Quote:
and I wanted to vote for all the NOs because they all apply...

I still have one of the old green letter MA plates that don't require a front one. Even though the plate looks pretty crappy I think it still looks better than having the front plate. If I get new plates I will still not add the front plate unless I get pulled over.
I think you can not get a state inspection sticker if you have the new plates but are missing the front one. Can anyone from MA confirm that? Anyway I alway have told my sales person not install the front plate. They write that right on the service request and on the P/S, so far it has not been a problem. I know most places put them on once the cars are unloaded off of the trucks so they can put on their dealership plate. |

NJ Requires them.On my first car, I told the dealership, numerous times, NO PLATE in which they replied with, sure no problem. When I got the car, there were holes drilled in and a plate holder mounted. ugh! Needless to say, I removed it, but there were still holes.
So when it came time for the new car, I told them I didn't want plates on there, and this time my cousin was working at the dealership (he's a mechanic) and he prept. my car. When I came to pick her up, there she was, plate-less. And plate-less she'll remain.

You should have put an option for people who live somewhere that a front license plate isn't required. Georgia doesn't require them or even offer them, so I don't have one.

I'm in TX and it is law, but it doesn't seem to be enforced too much. I had the option since my replacement car (to resolve an ED 330i missing the L7) was US delivered. I was able to catch my CA before the PDI folks mounted the plate.
I don't mind the plate so much on the E46, but it looks really ugly on the E90. |

i'm in sf quite a bit, and the city i work in, palo alto, both have meter maids that hand out tickets to cars with no front plates. so i just don't want to deal with the hassle. plus my dealer drilled my front bumper anyway.
