Hey Guys & gals

Just curious... Are the interiors of your cars loud? I'm not talking about the beautiful exhaust note when your on it. I'm talking about tire & road noise, theirs nothing sexy about that. In some states like TX, CA, FL...etc its real bad. Even some aftermarket exhaust can be brutal.

So we would appreciate it if you can let us know if you have a loud/irritating nosy interior due to:
Aftermarket exhaust
Road noise or tires

At this time we do not manufacture or sell any BMW parts. So I apologize for the lack of knowledge. We were looking to make our sound deadening mat (take 30 seconds to install) for BMW. Some thought it needed it. So I thought speaking to enthusiasts here would be the best way to get feedback.

I consider the F3x's to be loud. I added some Dynamat and SSA Luxury Liner to my doors to mitigate that.

check the Sound Meter App. Its on Google Android and Apple Car. It works great and is free. It gives you a good basis of comparison whatever you want to measure.

Im asking because we make a unique mat that in 30 seconds it takes the edge off interior noise. I was asked to make it for BMW but I didn't think you guys needed it. So I really appreciate the input.

The only road noise I hate is when my tires are getting worn out. Other than that, the intake induction and exhaust sound is too exhilarating.

Yea NY does not seem to be to bad with road noise. Just a few concrete roads here and there that will have me cringing. As for the exhaust...understood.

Very quiet.

C&D tested interior noise at 70 mph... the 230 was 69 Db; the 240 was 71 Db.

Interesting. That's quiet and your in CA. We hear the roads there (Concrete or something in the black top) make the tires roar.

Never had 'em – I ordered my car without run-flats.

for which car is this question? C300 or C7 or both? cause C300 should be quite but C7 shouldnt for road noise isolation..

Neither.
The C300 seems dead quiet. C7 is loud. Louder in certain states due to their large run flat foot print.
I was under the impression that the BMW was also noisy inside regardless if you had run flats or not. Seems it applies only to people with run flats or aftermarket exhaust.
Again, this is not personally for me. We are just gathering data because we were asked to make a deadening mat we produce for the BMW. I thought what better way to get actual feedback then to speak directly with enthusiasts.

I don't remember much wind noise once I got my car. However, after a few years, I started hearing wind noise.

Hmmm. Thats tough. Wind noise can be coming in from many areas and could also be the result of weather striping. In either case our product would not help in that situation.

What we are looking to accomplish is to help take the edge off noise in the cockpit generated from rear tires or aftermarket exhaust which both come from the rear of the car.
Our mat would go in the truck and suppresses and absorbs irritating noise that leaks in from there.

I've had non-run flats since day 2 of owning the car (Conti DWS 06, Conti ECS, Hankook R-S4, and Michelin A/S 3+). Without the additional soundproofing I did, I wouldn't be happy with the road noise inside the cabin. Part of my commute is over some pretty choppy freeway with a bunch of filled cracks and lines.

Amazing how the noise levels vary from car to car and person to person. Lol
What year and series do you have? Curious of the state your in too as some states have really rough roads.

my 335i's over 10yrs old, no rattles. It was only kinda noisy when i had the hankook evo tires, when i switch back to michelin pilots sports it was quiet even lowered on coil overs.

Audi's rattle like cheap hondas from the 90s.

My e90s are very quiet inside, and so is my friend's e46. Tires do make a huge difference though.

Yea, I'm attributing to old weather stripping as the source of the wind noise. There's also tire noise but only on shitty pavement. On the new asphalt pavement, it's nice, smooth and quiet.

Same here, my E92 was silent even with worn tires. My F22 pales in comparison and road noise is much more noticeable. I've had a squeaking seat which was at the dealership 3 times to get fixed (rear seat frame was replaced eventually), and now an irritating ticking sound coming from the rear deck driver side. In 6 years of E92 ownership, I haven't had a single squeak, tick, click, or rattle. I'm disappointed in the F22 interior build quality and cheaper feeling materials.

When my daughter was looking for her first car we drove a 235i and I commented to friends how much quieter it was than my Audi.

This summer I installed a decibel meter app to compare cars I drove.

My Audi averaged 78dB. The Mustang GT and Lexus were also 78dB. The Audi S5 was 74dB. The M235 xDrive was 72dB and a 4 series sedan was 68dB.

The dealer got an '07 328xi coupe with 36,000 miles so I jumped on it. It averaged 70dB.

It was the second thing my wife noticed. The first thing she commented on was the pretty Atlantic Blue paint.
