Yep, it's up there. Easily an 8.5. I didn't think it would be this fun but it is so fast and a total sleeper. I guess if you are looking for an in your face sports car presence, this car will lose points, but for what it is, it is brilliant. There are better drivers cars out there, but not many as comfortable as this one, and this car doesn't really give up much to the pure sports car.

In some ways it's like riding a thoroughbred that's tethered in a merry-go-round. The car just wants to open up and if you do, you're in triple digits in no time. It's so quick, but yet it's so well insulated and comfortable, you don't feel that you are going that fast. So like zuschnell said, if you want an in your face sports car, this is not the car for you. But if you want a sports luxury car, then it's a home run. I had a 991.1 GTS that was normally aspirated with a sports exhaust. That was a more in your face sports car. It was loud and you really had to push it to get the performance, so in some ways it was more rewarding. But it lacked the luxury and practicality I was looking for.
So for me, it's a solid 8. I'm not sure a perfect 10 exists. My perfect 10 would probably consist of two different cars. |

For me, it's a 6.5 on the fun scale, and my Cayman GTS was a 9. Still, I much prefer driving the M5 in most cases for other reasons (comfort, tech, safety, practicality), so it's still the winner overall.

I'd give it an 8 or 9 I think. While there are probably cars that are a bit more fun once you're up into the $150k+ price range, the M5 lets me enjoy my morning/evening commutes a helluva lot and also carry around plenty of junk or a few other people very comfortably when needed.

This has to be taken in the context of price, for a car under $125K it's a 9.

Meanwhile the father in law is picking crusty crap out of his hair beside side her. - they are just soooo great to have around. Like a useless barrel with holes trying collecting water. Anyway 8 out of 10, smaller and more nimble cars like M2 are actually more fun to drive, but this one beats them in everything else. |

My M5 Comp is a solid 9 for fun taking In account it's a large 4 door high tech Luxuary sedan with super car performance!
As you start to drive the car harder and harder it really shines in 4 wheel drive sport It is also a lot of fun to put everything in sport plus D3 transmission and poke around town in what my friends call Jackass mode loud pops and snaps coming from the exhaust every time you let off the gas and loud up shifts! One of my friends calls it the Joker mobile lol |

I think for me it’s an 8.5. The raw drivers cars are only fun when pushed to the limits. The fact that the M5C is incredibly fun when pushed to the limit, and insanely comfortable and pleasing to drive at 2/10ths makes this one heck of a car.
If I had a choice for anything under $125k, it would have to be a Cayman GT4 for me. I’d want something much more direct, lightweight, and naturally aspirated. Every interaction must be dialed for me to get over a 9 on the fun scale. |

The F80 had a more "connected to the ground" feel; the steering and handling so much tighter. But, to me, the F90 is a luxury version of the M4- it's like the 750i in terms of high-end tech and comfort but mated to the suspension and engine that's more like the M4. Of course, I'm in the early stages of M5 ownership- I haven't even opened it up and won't until I hit 1200 miles.

Not sure the top end of your scale is as high as euro delivery and driving on the autobahn. For me it is an 8.5 in Chicago as no way to really push the limits.

If you have the finances, weather conditions, and plenty of garage space then get two cars. If you can only afford / justify one car then I can't point to anything that does it better in this price point than the F90. |

If you told me to pick one car to keep it would be the M5. Its faster, more sophisticated, better balanced (at least vs the M4 conv) and I really benefit from the AWD. While the car is massive it really does shrink around you as many of the articles about the car say (my favorite is Sam Smith’s article in Motor Trend from May 4) I would greatly miss the smaller size of the M4 and definitely the manual transmission. |

Solid 9, maybe 10. You can only lose your virginity once, I can drive this car every day. It's like all other cars on the road are just in my way. The F90 drives smaller than it is, just point and shoot, while in the lap of luxury. I love this car. |

I think the OP's scale is apples and oranges, but compared to other cars I've owned and driven(Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Supercharged Roush Mustangs, etc.) it's the all around most impressive auto! All the cars / makes I listed were RWD, so lacked the true road feel and confidence this M5 has w/ AWD.
