Question S5 wanted to race...

Do you think I even had a chance if we were already doing 45mph? He pulled up next to me and nodded to race. He gunned it a couple of times but I didn't take the bait. Wasn't sure if I even had a chance against his V8. I must say however it was a black S5 and it looked hawt!

I don't have any mods but am planning on getting the Dinan soon. I know our cars have a lot of torque and I was just above 2,200 rpm but I was still a bit gun shy. Damn it; I wish I raced him now. If I had the Dinan I would not have hesitated.

Didn't they compare the S5 vs the 335i and it was dead on par at the track and 0-60? Top gear says 5.1 for 0-60 for S5

I haven't seen that posted...

From edmunds.com:

Quote:
Powertrains and Performance

The S5 boasts a 4.2-liter direct-injected V8 that makes 354 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. It comes paired to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with manual shift control. In our testing, a manual-equipped S5 sprinted to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and ran down the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds.
Now 4.9 seconds is nothing to sneeze at, but it's a loooong ways away from 4.5.

check this video out. stock theyre pretty much identical. bmw has a little better handling, audi a little quicker cuz of the 40 extra hp v8. any kind of a tune though and ur walkin the audi.

yeah im pretty sure the s5 wudda won too. the test between s5 and 335i that edmunds did was in a track with hard turns, so the rwd>awd. but going straight stock 335i stands no chance with the s5.

where is that stock 335 has no chance in straight line on S5 coming from?

you can probably look at the fifth gear review and realize they are pretty much on par.

The S5 looks so damn good, I could care less how fast it goes.

What an amazing design, clean and sexy.

Well no. You can see the S5 pulling away on the straightaway only to fall back when the twisties showed up. If you listen to what she says at the end of the comparison, she says that the 335i only won by 6/100 of a second, and that it was a triumph of handling over power.

Now with that in mind, throw out any handling gains that the 335i has over the S5, because this is a straight-line race, and the 335i will lose.

s5 dynos as 271 hp and 265 ft lbs, legitimate tests put it at 5.1 seconds to 60.

It weights almost 3600 pounds and has higher driveline losses due to the quattro, but more traction off the line.

Stock to Stock, you would probably loose off the line, but the extra torque would catch it to 60 and you should go around it, from a roll without the quattro helping any you should be able to pull an S5 slightly.

It might have the 4.2L V8, but it has the detuned version and gernally makes less power than the stock 335 which is underated - if the 335 was rates like the audi, it would be rated 330/350. Watch out for the RS5 with the full 420 hp - you will need some mods to keep up to that!

S5 is a good looking car, I've seen a couple lately and did a double take, very nice cars. You were smart not to race, made him look like the idiot child.

The same website got a time of 4.8 0-60 for 335i. .

My personal opinion....S5 will lose a roll on race. More weight and AWD powertrain losses work against it.

its actually around 5, i have sstt and a while ago raced an S5 off the line and by end of 2nd (72mph) i had 2.5 CL's and mine does 0 - 60 is a bit less then 4.5

it felt very heavy to me from the side and had surges of power comared my BMW steady pull. plus that time the guy was a jerk, probably thinking that his red S5 is god. so he didnt want to pull over and let me check out his ride
