Steering
Does anyone feel like the steering has to much play in it ? (In DD comfort)
Especially driving today in the rain, AWD and everything and still felt dangerous....like I had to over focus. |

Never had this sensation in Comfort. If you compare comfort mode for the steering in the M5 to comfort in any BMW, there is a massive difference in weight, and directness. May be only me, but I don't feel such a massive difference from Comfort to Sport Plus.

+1. I don't feel like Sport+ is heavy at all ... I think it feels like it should all the time. I'd be OK if BMW re-calibrated the steering one notch higher so the current sport would be the new comfort, the current sport + would be the new sport and a new even firmer sport + would be added.

Main issue I have with steering is I feel the bass of music playing on steering wheel even at pretty low volumes. Also feel the engine. Makes no difference if it is comfort, sport or sport plus. Does anybody else have this "noises" on steering wheel or is it just me?

I only drive it in sport steering and 4WD Sport MDM (M Dynamic Mode) Found out this is the best configuration.

I can “barely” feel the difference when I put my winter tires in my X5M. At 80mph the steering wheel is not perfectly still, but close. But , I know the winters are on by the steering wheel feel. Most would never know. My M5 has zero vibration at 80mph. Nothing. Just another data point for you. |

I specifically paid attention to this last night because of this comment. I felt zero base vibration in the steering wheel. On the EQ, I only have the base set a few notches above base line so if you have added a lot more base that may be the cause.

All I can think of is that there is some defect in specific cars if most here report no such issue. Possibly some bushings or mounts failing that are meant to absorb these "noises". I only have 2.3k miles and this started at about 300-400 miles if I remember correctly. |

So went and test drove another 2018 M5 - same specs with my car. This one too at idle you feel the engine vibrating the steering wheel. Also just barely playing music you feel it on steering wheel. People here mentioned they feel nothing - either there are some different M5s out there or??
Also drove it around, and even though it was smoother than mine, you could still feel the engine on your feet even barely tapping the gas from 1500 to 2000 RPM. But still nobody here has this? |
