New Toyota Supra 5.0L V8, 450 bhp, 383 lb-ft torque
Just picked up the April 2006 issue of Road & Track, and rumor has it that the Supra will make a comeback in October of 2007. Expect the V8 Supra to be priced around $50K. A 3.5L V6 one will be around $40K, and will sport the same powerplant used in the IS350 and GS350, but tuned to produce more power. Road & Track reports this will be around 350 bhp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The Supra will be offered in both a convertible and coupe form.
Toyota's mission will be to knock the 350Z off its pedestal and the "...V-8 Supra may even give the Nissan GT-R a run for its money." |

I have that magazine as well. I think the supra will be great against the 350Z, their biggest factor should be the weight of the new supra, in comparison to the 350Z, being that weight is its only major flaw. My guess is that nissan will be bringing out a new Z anyway, because of the new G37 that is in production. Cant wait!!

Wow, great news. Last supra was what...back in '97? Even so, that 97 Supra is still one of today's most popular vehicles to ultramod.
But 50k? I dunno, but that's one hell of an expensive Japanese car. You can imagine all the other cars you can get for that much...

If we are looking in the arena of performance vehicles, which I am assuming the Supra should be a competitor in, $50k can get you a seriously modded EVO or STi. When I say serious, I mean serious.
50k can also land: 1) Corvette (cheaper) 2) E46 M3 (cheaper) 3) Lotus Elise (cheaper) 4) Cayman (more expensive)

Hope to see the official Nuovo Supra pics soon.
I've heard a rumor of a V10 Engine Supercar, I wonder if it is still in the workings or not. ksfrogman do you know or have info about this Toyota Supersports Car?

I wonder why Toyota is even thinking about unseating the GT-R. That's purely Japanese market. Are they trying to imply that this new Supra won't be coming to the states?

I have the latest R&T issue as well. The CGI's aren't quite to my liking. I think this car will probably end up sharing the platform currently being used by both the GS and IS. If they want this car to be profitable at all, they'll for sure have to reconsider this supposed $50k price tag. I do remember the previous Supra hitting 40k new and loaded. It will probably be much the same for the new car. And I'd buy one for sure.... if there was no M3. or 911/Cayman/Boxster.

A lot of you guys are saying that $50k is too much, but remember their are 2 versions. The low-end version is already getting 350hp from the 3.5LV6. I'd expect the V8 to get 450hp.
I'm just hoping those toyota engineers deem it worthy to put in a manual transmission of some kind and a DSC-off button (unlike the IS) Last edited by JO3; 03-21-2006 at 08:51 PM.. |
