Comfort Access stopped working
Hello all, I have been enjoying the comfort access feature where the car locks and unlocks automatically when I approach and leave the proximity of the car.
Yesterday I noticed that the comforting "chime" that beeps when I walk away is no longer there, and sure enough the feature is no longer working. I went into the settings and turned the feature off and back on, but no change. Any ideas? Are there any other factor involved that would stop this from activating? This is my first BMW and I know that there are many things that I sill do not know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I’ve had the same problem intermittently. We are alpha testing the incomplete software and they are likely trolling here for improvements needed.

My 2008 has comfort access worked perfectly for 11 years now yet a brand new X5 has issues with the same feature, seems we are going backwards here - new X5 seems like typically microsoft software getting released to production when it is really in Beta - the rushed the lifecycle of the new X5 and it is looking like it is showing a bit.

Have similar problems. About 10% of the time, auto lock doesnt work. Kind of sucks since I have to check every time after leaving the vehicle and that completely defeats the purpose of the feature for me.

Same. Sometimes it doesn't unlock when I approach and lock when I walk away. It seems to always work when I touch the door handle though. I was wondering if my battery in the remote is low and will replace it as a cheap troubleshooting option, but based on what I've read in this post, it seems like it may be the software.

This is the new techno wonder vehicles. All manufactures at this price point are all going to be this way. It’s a smart phone on wheels so regular firmware updates are now a part of our lives. On the plus side is the systems never stop evolving so we always will have the latest software tech. Not sure waiting for bugs to be worked out applies anymore because it’s like waiting for the bugs to be worked out of the latest top tier smart phone. That never happens.

I don’t think it matters. Every system is going to get firmware updated regardless when you buy. Get the vehicle with the right color and options and enjoy. The new X5 is incredible.

Does anyone know if BMW is aware of the issue and if a firmware update is in the works? Kind of frustrating to hear her complain about a stuff like this with car at this price point. |

The profile question is interesting. The feature in question is one that you select and then would be associated with whichever key was active when the selection was made, wouldn’t it? If the hubbies key was used to set it then the wife key might have to be set independently. Also some people just put both sets of keys in the same place and don’t pay any attention which set they’re grabbing on the way out the door, which isn’t good for obvious reasons. Just a thought.

This didn't fix the intermittent walk away and kick to open issues I have but at least my setting are now set up to the correct key. |

I've been reading/stalking this forum ever since I ordered. I just got mine yesterday and was having inconsistent lock/unlock too in very short time I had it. Since its wet outside I played with the comfort access- and the idrive and just about every button I can press - a lot in my garage to see if I could figure it out. I did notice that it worked perfect until locked the door by touching the handle. It worked again after I restarted the car, so I think it has something to do with that?
PS. great community on this board. thank you for answering a ton of my questions about ordering and using my new BMW |

This. I think the walk away/walk toward feature works based on how you last unlocked or locked your car in some way. I need to play with it more to figure out the exact pattern, but I've noticed it definitely changes based on how I lock or unlock the car.
