well?

i'd like to hear from you on this subject! because I only have room for one toy and if I ever get sick of my F87, the car that I would trade it for would be a low mileage E92. I have never driven one but I love the looks and sounds of the car and the whole notion of a naturally aspirated V8.

My E92 is low milage (36K kms) but no more warranty. And due to this I decided to trade it in with the 18 M2 demo with 14K kms that saved me almost $21K compare to new. I like everything about the my E92 M3, I actually happy with it but preventive maintenance will be very expensive if something breaks down. The rod bearings, body actuators and brakes (due for replacement soon). I rented an M2 for couple of days just to feel how's is it and it's very close to my M3 but I will miss the sound of the S65 V8 engine for sure.

I went from E46 M3 to F87 M2. I thought about an upgrade to an E92 but circumstances changed and I was able to spend more than I had expected. I miss the glorious noise of high revs, but that’s it.

I owned an E46 M3 as well but SMG and I hate it. That's why I traded it in and got this M3. Yap high rpm noise will be missed. The M2 sounds like my old 135i which is boring, so I made sure that the M2 has PE.

Only 36k km?! What was the point? Your M3 was just getting started. I bet the next owner will greatly appreciate you not driving it, pay the $2500 for rod bearings, and drive it hassle free for 100k more miles. Enjoy that M2!

Yes 36K only and I bought the M3 used with 15K only two years ago. I pretty sure the next owner will be happy.

I didn't go directly from the e92 to M2 ( I did e46 M3 - S54 Z3M Coupe - another e46 M3 - e92 M3 - Audi RS5 - then finally f87 m2).

I miss just 2 things about the e92: dynamic dampers, and sound. It would be nice if we had a comfort setting for those really rough roads, but really the M2 drives great and I don't find it too firm except on the worst of roads. And the sound. THE SOUND! The S65 is one of my all time favorite sounding engines, but, for a turbo 6 the M2 sounds pretty good.

The actual driving dynamics between the two, I prefer the M2, plus the low end torque is so much better to live with every day as a daily driver compared to having to rev like crazy in the M3. Oh, and not having to worry if you'll have to spend a small fortune on repairs is nice too.

That's another reason, my plan now is to daily drive the car not like the M3 it's just weekend car. I totally agree with you I'll miss dynamic dampers & sound as well.

Have owned an e46 M3 and two E92M3's.

If BMW released the E92 today as a brand new car with a warranty for roughly the same price as an M2, I would pick the M3 all day long. That V8 screaming around 8500 RPM...nothing better.

Alas, BMW doesn't offer a brand new E92 M3, so the M2 is a good second choice!

I was going to go with an e92 to replace my 335, but its very hard finding a clean example in a good spec. gotta have the competition pack, hk stereo, and carbon roof in a decent color combo.

M2 is a better daily I think. But it would have been nice to have the nappa leather and adjustable dampers for what this car costs.

My last BMW was an E90 M3. I bought it as a CPO and got the impression that whoever ordered it from the factory was a purist. It was basically a stripper except for the blue leather interior. I had it for three years until the warranty elapsed. I still miss the sound of that S65 revving past 8k. It was my first M and will always be special.

In just about every way though, I feel like my M2 is the superior car. It's a true masterpiece and easily the best M car I've ever driven or owned (E36, E46, E90, F80). It's just an incredible machine.

Great thread - I kind of did the same!

Difference for me is (fortunately) I still have both an E90 M3 and an F86 '16.

The M3 is in the UK and I love it so much I decided to hang onto it even though we moved to the US. I didn't want to just do the same again (i.e. buy another E90 / 92), but after trying Focus RS, Golf R and the M2, I just loved the M2 - closest to a go-kart while still sophisticated and nice interior etc.

I agree with others, I prefer the softer ride of the E90 - mine isn't EDC but still softer. I also massively miss the noise and 'rumble' of the engine. As my E90 is the 4 door, I occasionally also miss the (ugh!) practicality.

On the flip, I think the F87 it feels more agile, and even though the M3 is a 2011 LCI, the F87 make it feel a bit dated inside.

Think they are both great cars with a size and comfort level that makes them usable but so much fun too. I'm going to ride the wave of actuators, rods etc. I've owned it long enough and there will never be a new version so at least I know most of the history.

The E92 M3 is a car I would really like to own at one point. I think it is a special car because of its engine and the E90 was a good generation of cars in general. I wouldn't trade my M2 for one but more cars is not a bad thing.

I have both, one day I will sell one or the other one of them.

The M3 I like better, but the M2 is a better DD. Torn between which one to keep.

I’m a big fan of the E92 M3 also and came really close to getting one when I had my m235i. Now that I have my M2, I’m very happy with it. I wouldn’t trade my M2 for one now, but would get one for an extra fun car if I could.

I just like the way the e92 looks. It has that old school menacing M car look.

Went from an e92 M3 to F87 M2. DCT --> Manual. I've had my M2 for a little over a year now and I'd say the only things I really miss about that car is the sound and steering feel. M2 is a better daily for me and more fun to drive around the city. The updated interior/iDrive is nice as well.

I did it in both those cars.

I prefer the back seat of the E92.
