Ive been dating my SO for a year and a half, and i know if it was her choice, she would get married today. Im only 24 (shes 21) and i feel like im still a couple years out yet, why rush it?

So coming from an old fella, I would say you're young and you will both grow and hopefully mature between now and when you're 30. Don't rush into it.

If you haven't already and believe she's the one, put a ring on it at least. If you think you will be ready in 1 1/2 years you better get busy. Takes a long time to plan and reserve everything, a year cuts it very close. I got married at 20, she was 18, and we both say we wouldn't have changed a thing. Going on 11 years married here, we dated for about 1 1/2 years and knew each other for a while before that. We also were very mature for our age so that didn't cause anyone to say we were too young. Problem with that is then the other half usually wants to make a little one quickly and you don't get to enjoy life together. See it all the time next thing ya know it ends in divorce. Funny thing is my friends that got married young are almost all still married, the ones that didn't haven't faired well.

Dated for 5 months, engaged for 1.5 years before we got married. Got married because I joined the military, otherwise we would’ve been engaged a little longer. We spent less than $1k on gas to drive from Illinois to Florida (and back) + her wedding dress + reception + wedding itself. Don’t need a big wedding and sometimes marriage is more to save money such as moving my wife to Germany because that was my first duty station.
