i drove my dads 1980s mercedes SL a few weeks ago. What a turd. Honestly those cars feel unsafe doing anything over 50mph, like it would take a football field to brake.
I think the sweet spot has passed though. Cars are getting too heavy, engines are downsizing, manuals are being phased out, etc.

Sure they were, just not compared to 2019 Bullitt.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Meh, I can appreciate modern cars. When I want to get back to basics I drive a 60’s roadster for the full driving experience.

.....I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car A brilliant red Barchetta From a better vanished time I fire up the willing engine Responding with a roar Tires spitting gravel I commit my weekly crime Wind In my hair Shifting and drifting Mechanical music Adrenaline surge... Well-weathered leather Hot metal and oil The scented country air Sunlight on chrome The blur of the landscape Every nerve aware... Yeah That's what I'm talking about - most newer cars can't get you there...they are too insulated, too comfortable, too polished. Newer cars are better, yes, but attaining "better" meant leaving something behind.

I don’t know. I have been driving a very long time. But my current M2 is by far my favorite car that I have owned.

My first car was a '68 mustang, 289 2v with a C4. Basic car, nothing fancy. Driving my '66 Galaxie convertible 428 2/4v C6 brings back that feeling. Wind in the hair - yup. Every nerve aware - that too. Adrenaline surge - yup.
My BMW is a much better car - much better brakes, electrics, headlights, handling, everything. But the old car puts a grin on my face you can't take off with a belt sander.
