Question about independent inspections on BMWs still under warranty

I'm contemplating a number of options for my next car including buying a pre-owned car private party sale. My question is if I am purchasing a car that is still under the BMW warranty or a CPO warranty, do I still need to have a third party inspection done to make sure the car is in good shape? Or does the BMW warranty give me the peace of mind that whatever goes bad will be fixed? Thanks for the help!

Usually the CPO is rigerously inspected so you should feel more comfortable that the warranty is there.

There is actually a system in place where you can buy a car from a 3rd party, then bring it in to your local BMW dealer so they can tag it as CPO. I think they can also do the financing...however I'm not 100% sure about that.

Oh, the reason I know this is because I had this conversation with my CA when I was going to pull the trigger on a e90 M3....the trade in value they were willing to give me was terrible, so this is the suggestion they gave me. If you are interested in doing this, I'd say call your CA to get some verification.

The car was purchased CPO (so i guess you can call the car third hand). I guess my question was more if it is already CPO, do I need to worry about anything with the car?

Oh...sorry dude..I get it now. I think it's always a good thing that you're buying (or looking) a cpo car...however I'm a firm believer that it's always best to get a third party inspection just to be safe.

I was looking at a few e46 M3's a few monts ago, and I brought 1 of the 2 cars into a local euro shop that gave it a thorough inspection. I believe it cost me around $75....and they found a few things that would have been tough for me to determine with a simple test drive. I ended up passing on the car.

just because the car is CPO doesnt mean that after it was CPO'd the owner didnt take care of it...id personally pay the $100 or whatever it is in your area to have the car looked at by the dealer pre purchase to make sure all is good
