Any 50i owners plan to trade in for an M50i when available?
My 50i really has more power than I need, but then again, a lot about this car really isn't about "need" at all, is it?
I have kicked around the notion of next year trading in my 50i for the M50i -- call me a sucker for an extra 70hp and some M badging. Am I nuts for considering? Anyone else considering? Probably I should just buy an M badge for 20 bucks online, and save myself a whole lot of money, in terms of not just the transaction costs, but the added speeding tickets...

Yeah, I hear ya. That's a tough one, when you buy a brand newly released model, and they released an improved model after only 5 months. We have yet to see what the M50i will cost, of course. If it were me, it wouldn't be worth sucking up TWO sets of $100k car depreciations over a year. (or even two) The 50i is awesome as it is.
I know you know this, but I personally am trying to hold off to the MY2020 for my purchase, for many reasons, one being the availability of the M50i if I choose to go for that engine. (which I likely won't) |

As you already alluded to, it wouldn’t be the smartest decision financially.
Most of us probably wouldn’t do such a thing and will only think of such a prospect quietly and keep to themselves. Only a select few foolish car enthusiasts will truly succumb. You’ve now made a whole new separate thread about it, so you’re firmly screwed and are in that camp. Congrats future M50i owner! If I were in the same boat, I’d be right there with you If I had a few months-old 50i, there’s no doubt I’d trade for the M50i no matter how financially irresponsible it may be.

Nada. As far as from a X5 50i M-Sport view point.... A "M" badge on the back and 70hp isnt worth that much over the a M baged on the front fenders and 70hp less. Dont we already have enough "M" on the steering wheel, brakes, and lighted "M" on the door sills?
The real world reality is there will be no difference between the two unless BMW firms up the ride even more and that would certainly not make the trade appealing. Both are "M-Sport" vehicles so the only real reason to trade in would be for the full-M X5M for a real power bump but with the trade off for a harsh ride if you can live with it. (Voice of reason talking) We already have a 4 second 0-60mph luxury/performance suv. How much overkill do you really want to go? If you want more then only the X5M makes any sense. I have been down this road before with 911's. There will always be a faster model. Last edited by MystroX5; 03-31-2019 at 11:43 AM.. |

Mystro - I'm with you there. It is an even harder decision on the x5 side.
X5 M and M competition are out at the same time. So, choose between: 523HP 600HP adn 625HP One can have leases mapped out for the next 9 years Hey its only money after all - and if they ban all ICE cars and introduce electric speed limits - we are going out with a bang HP wars: jaguar F type SVR Alfa stevio Quadra MB GLE 63 Audi QS8 lambo Rolls Royce Benty All have 500+HP decent handling SUVs |

I totally didn’t do much research I admit. Basically went in and bought on a whim. The one bit of research I had seen was that the X7M that has been contemplated was being cancelled. But had I known there was the “M” version of my engine coming in 6 months, I probably would have waited.
But yes, to your point, that’s on me — and up to me whether to take the hit or not. (Really think it’ll just be a $10k hit? If so, I can live with that maybe.... and it would allow me to change a couple of the specs on the car that I might have done differently!) We’ll see. If the ride quality changes at all on the M50i version, I won’t do it. Love the ride as it stands. Love everything about it really. Just wouldn’t mind the extra hp if it’s available. I also wonder if, in 5 years, or whenever I end up looking for something new, the resale of the 50i will be hurting compared to the M version. Anyway, interesting thought exercise. Love the car either way.

Hey Otis, i'd do the math and see what 70hp, will really do to an X7, given its size / weight.
What are you going to gain, few tenths of a second?!

What's different in terms of looks here? Looks like it's just the M sport package?

Does look like the M sport package, but with satin silver trim around the fog light and front intakes, and along the bottom sides.
Not liking it. I prefer the black shadowline trim. |

I don't like the silver trim either, but see it has M brakes and M logo on front quarter panel. Tough to tell here, but my vents are all open on the bottom, from left to right.

Mechanically, apart from the engine upgrade resulting in 523hp & 553lb-ft of torque @ 1800rpm, the X7 M50i will also come with the electronic rear LSD as standard equipment. |

there were some pics of M50 x5 flying around.
So if M50 is going to have the M package, M brakes and dif standard - will the x line be available in v8 trim at all after august? |

Add a flat black grill and I'd get one. You think there may be some suspension tweaks?
