HELP: My steering wheel feels so loose!

Hi guys

So just to shortly explain my situation:

I drive a 2012 BMW 316d. 5 to 6 months ago I felt my steering wheel "loosening". The best way I can explain what I mean is that I felt a lot less resistance than usual when cornering.

The first thing I thought was that my wheels needed to be aligned so I took it to my local BMW tech and he did the alignment for me and I must say after the work I did get the usual resistance on my wheel back.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago I had the same feeling come back and leave at random! I then took the car back for another alignment and after that everything returned back to "normal".

Two weeks ago I felt my steering wheel acting up again and I had my wheels balanced even though it wasn't really needed.. and since then it has been really loose when cornering and during general driving ever since.

Do you guys know what might be the problem? Might it be a deeper problem. I've tried checking the wheels for any looseness but they seem pretty good to me in that respect.

If any of you have had similar issues it'd be very happy to know what you ended up doing and if you haven't any suggestions as to what this might be would be a life saver.

Thanks in advance!

How many miles on your car? Could be control arm bushings?

I've got 131000 km on the clock. If it would be that, is that an expensive replacement?

yeah check your tie rod and control arm bushings. Jack the care up in the air and grab the wheel to see how much play is in the suspension. 130k km is a lot.
