Canadian Wi-Fi Hotspot
When I first got the vehicle, and I set up the mobile hotspot, it asked me to set up an account with AT&T for a free trial. I thought it was supposed to be 3 months but it stopped working after a month.
I didn't bother after and I forgot about it. Currently, I'm in my car, working on my laptop, and I noticed it connected to the BMW hotspot again. This time, it doesn't use AT&T, but I traced the IP to an ISP called iWeb. I'm wondering now what it's going on and why do I suddenly have free access again (after over 6 months?)\ I doubt the SSID was hijacked though as it is a still "secured" connection. Anyone has any idea? |

To connect to the hotspot in BMW, you have to initiate it via the iDrive even if you've connected before. So, I'm not sure how your hotspot automatically connected to the car without your intervention.

I was connected before (long time ago). Anyway, I just remove the connection from iDrive and restarted the process. Same thing, no forwarding to AT&T page, it just connects and uses iWeb as ISP.
Reading about iWeb, they are owned by Internap, which seems like they work with AT&T. https://www.crn.com/news/networking/...management.htm |
