Reliability for your e90.....
Hi everyone, I am a newbie to this forum. Just got a couple questions for you all have owned e90s for a while.
1. Do you have problems with your car? 2. Whats the most common problem for this model? 3. How relieable is this car so far..... I am getting off my lease around June; currently, 325i w/ sports package is on the top of my list. Thank you for your inputs. Hopefully I will join you guys soon! |

No problems here - and a much lower rate of complaint for these cars than any other car I've seen.

I've had the car for 2 months, and it's absolutely tight, rattle free, and problem free. I'm not sure I've ever had this experience before (knock on wood). So far it's been a very good experience. In contrast, my last car was an M-B S430, which was far more expensive, but problematic (and it creaked and rattled) from the day I owned it to the day I sold it. And it ate brakes every 1000 miles. The BMW included maintenance is a nice plus...

BMW 3 series is one of the more reliable, if not the most of the BMW brand. They have to be since it is the highest seller as well. I don't think a lot of people have had many problems with the car so far, but unfortunately it's too early to really know how it's going to hold together in the long run. I haven't had any problems so far and I've been driving since November. BTW, this is much better than my two previous cars. My Pontiac had some rattle since a week new. The Expedition had to get a new transmission after only 2K miles. Go for it, you won't regret it.

My e90 has been perfect. I'e owned it 8 months and covered about 13K miles. I will be due for my first service soon. Others have reported some softwarer glitches, problems with the Bluetooth interface, some rattles in the dash, but thats about it.

2 months and 3000km later...no problems. MY first BMW and if this keeps up it wont be my last. Very solid car, drives like a dream, no creaks or rattles and I keep trying to find them.

Gotta add some yin to everyone else's yang. I've had to take the car in to have its valve lifters replaced. Granted, they weren't affecting driveability of the car at all, but were being noisy. Apart from that, my ownership experience has been pretty much problem free (knock wood).
Get the 3, the car's a joy! |

A quick word: BMW has built this car to last as w/ much of the new BMW line(all models after the E65/66 7er). Much of the panels have been produced w/ durability in mind and cheap to replace cost should the worst happen. Granted it's a German car, the 3er will probably be the cheapest of its' kind to run. The E90 M3 variants, I'm sure that will be a whole nother story as they're M cars. Overall I think you'll see the new cars being a charm to drive for the next several years, but things do pop up, as w/ any other car.

I've had no problems, closing on 5K miles. Of course, I'm not as picky as some others about a slight rattle.

Much better than my B6 Audi A4!
I have had issues with the car, most notably with the active cruise control where the sensor came loose and the cruise control system refused to function until the sensor was replaced. I have also had the squeaky seats and seatbely ticking. I thought I had other issues, but I put these down to settling into the car and getting used to the BMW way... I have to say that the BMW dealership have been amazing, and have never complained about my questions, no matter how stupid they may have seemed. I judge things on not so much what goes wrong, but on how the situation is handled, and on this score, Audi got a big fat zero out of ten! About 11,500km down the track, I am one happy clam and love my car to bits, and the minor irritations I have suffered are completely forgivable for the joy and pleasure that the car gives to me with every journey.

Excellent! I can see the forum has many proud owner of e90.
Sorry Jamie, gotta disagree with you. Currently I am driving the 2005 B6 A4 Avant and it has giving me 20,000+ trouble free miles. Even better than my ex-03 Accord. This is the second A4 I have/had. Unfortunately, the my ex-98 A4 weren't as bulletproof as this one. Basically I had to go back to stealership every month with the 98 A4.... My point is, I have had 2 extreme products from same company. The love and hate emotion is very hard to deal with... So please! More owners back me up with their car! Looks like many of your e90 aren't pass10k yet. Anyone's passed 10k or more? And hows the car holding up? Great people in the forum. Thank you! |

I am not wanting to discount your experience, but my experience was the dreaded coil problem which affected many A4's and VWs (I got the 2001 model which was one of the first of the B6's). My A4 left me stranded on the highway with a friend's 4 yo child in the car and Audi argued about whether or not they would come and pick me, the car and the child up! I had the thermostat go, and the car ran rough for a while, because the engine management module wasn't able to determine the correct mapping to use. A friend's S4 had the same problem. Intermittently the power windows would go on the fritz and many times I came back to my car to find all the windows wound down... Then the dash module died just before I got rid of the horrid thing... I am sure many people have had no problems at all with their Audi's. I got an early model, so I guess they hadn't ironed out all the bugs yet. However, my E90 is at a similar place in the lifecycle of the model that my B6 was when I bought it, and the BMW has had nothing like these problems, and I have over 11,500km on the odo.

No mechanical problems with my e90 so far - Sept 05 with 5100 miles.
I had an electrical glitch in which the idrive monitor was not shutting off when the key was removed. This happened 2x so far. I had to fool around with the key/start button and idrive a couple of times to get it to shut off.

The only problem I had wasn't a manufacturing defect. Right after I bought it I started having exhaust issues. Turns out a mouse decided it loved the car as much as I do, so it made a nest above my gas tank and then it chomped on a vent hose. The dealer saved the nesting material for me, and the material isn't something I have in my garage, so I think the nest was there when I bought my car.

I've had my car since October, it has 3000 miles on it so far. I have had no problems whatsoever, unless you count my comfort access that acts up once in a while, but I can live with that.
