A three and half star car
Wow new M cars were once the class leaders. BMW seem to have lost their way

Just reading the X3M review. Seems it is just a bit disappointing
'But because it prizes handling precision and drivability over more lurid, dramatic and accessible performance appeal, the X3 M Competition ends up feeling short of a really outstanding selling point: like a car that isn't as versatile, as broad-batted or as usable as some, or as downright rapid or exciting at everyday speeds as others' |

So, we complain that the M performance models are soft and not true M cars, and here we complain that M cars are not soft and forgiving enough?

there is no perfect performance SUV, there can't be because they will never match the sedan/coupes
you either go all out performance, comfort, or in between, BMW sort of went in-between from what it sounds like. Mercedes and Alfa take the performance crown (although I could never buy Alfa because of interior and infotainment) and personally think the GLC looks like crap. Macan is best handling but not that quick (in comparison), Jaguar is more in same boat as BMW, lacking performance and handling. |

people, automotive journalists to be precise, see the world and the cars they drive differently. one mans 3.5 stars is an others 5 stars is an other's 1 star. its hardly science. the one thing all these reviewers seem to share is they don't understand the appeal of a coupe SUV. I really don't care as I drive a coupe SAV. I have a large enough to live in cargo van so if I really really need 10,000 rolls of costco toilet paper I can always drive that.

From my experience with the lower models, the X4 loses a half star on practicality to the X3 so that certainly makes sense to me.
I just went straight to the X3M review. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...on-2019-review " BMW's in-house tuner will finish 2019 with as many jacked-up 'utility vehicles' in its showroom range as saloons, coupes and convertibles combined" " It's a predictably serious driver's car, in other words; which is what we should expect of the M Division – even if that makes it feel unusual, and perhaps a bit misplaced, in a class of performance cars that some remain singularly unwilling to take at all seriously. " Fair enough. |

Agreed with above. It's priced right, it's fast, probably quicker than factory quoted, good service network and reliable. No question it is going to appeal to M buyers needing a SUV but still a BMW M. Thus one is heading to my garage. Then again so is a M8 Comp as well.
