Roadtrip for 2
Took a long weekend and put about 1200 miles on the odometer last week. What a car! If you happen to be driving in Eastern Kentucky, pay a visit to Buckhorn Lake State Park. Try to come from the North East, not on highway 15 but through the backroads. I left it in Sport mode, not Sport Plus, and the gear lever in sport mode as well. Driving along a rock wall, the pop of the engine sounded almost like a gun shot, scared me a little. The BMW navigation system got very confused very quickly with all the switchbacks up and down the hills, but the iPhone Maps app worked great. From a practicality perspective, the handles in the door are great to wedge a water bottle in, so the cup holders can hold a cup of coffee in the morning. The bench behind the seats is great for caps, pillows, etc., so is the little through loading storage between the seats. I was very impressed with the fuel economy coming on down from Chicago. We exceeded 30 miles per gallon, I think I even averaged about 32 mpg during a more spirited portion after Louisville up and down the hills for a good stretch until we reached Lexington in Sport mode. So, if you want to save the planet: drive fast and in sport mode!!! By the way, during interstate driving using the BMW navigation system as primary, and Waze in the background to warn us of ahem, road hazards ahead via voice. Worked perfectly! |

Thanks for the report; that's what I should have been doing this weekend instead of installing flooring!
Cheers, Dave |
