Question regarding the newer 335i

Got a friend that wants JB3, V3, or SSTT for his 08 335i. Are these mods detectable on the new 335is?

JB3 is not detectable when running the proper map.

V3 is not detectable when running the proper map.

What do you mean by proper map. Sorry I'm new to this.

Some of the tunes like JB3 and V3 run on programs called "maps" that come in different versions geared towards different conditions and/or goals. For instance if you want to run race gas or have catless dp's and other mods you can squeeze more out of the engine, and these tuners offer special versions for such a case; however, pushing the engine harder requires running certain values like boost and fuel beyond factory set thresholds considered normal for a stock vehicle. BMW have recently released new ecu software that will log these values going beyond the factory range and they can tell you've added a tune that's doing it. Consequently these tunes can offer "safe" maps that don't push the values far enough to trip an alert that will be noticed by the dealer. The V3 for instance calls their undetectable map "doomsday" and I believe the upcoming JB3 alleges their standard map is not detectable.

It all depends on how you define "detectable" and why that is important to you (or your friend...)
