Cancelling Sprint/Nextel contract

So my phone is crapping out on me, and instead of battling Sprint to get a new phone, I would really prefer to just cancel with them and get an iPhone with AT&T.

Is there any way to get out of my contract without paying early termination fees? Ive heard of people doing this before, but Im not sure how, or if this is even true. I did some quick googling and found one way related to changes Sprint was making to peoples contracts back in January, but this doesnt apply anymore.

btw, the HTC Mogul is the worst phone Ive ever owned. Stay away

i've done it before, you have to call them and tell them that you are moving out of the country, they will need you to provide your plane tickets..etc and then they will mail out a letter to the place where you are moving to and you (you can tell your friends or family) have to be able to receive the letter. DonE!

I think the price of the plane tickets you'd have to show them would outweigh any cancellation fees.

Pay the term. fee and just sell the phone on Ebay...you'll easily get like $150 if it's in decent condition.

I'm about to do the same thing with Sprint, they suck in my area. I get dropped calls 2-3 times a day. I still have a year left on my contract. I heard if you call and complain a bunch, like everyday. You can get out of the contract. I'm kinda lucky myself, cause my phone is in my dads name, and he has a phone under my brothers contract. So, actually they couldn't make either one of us pay. He can ignore the letters, the cards he used when he signed up are no longer being used. How can they charge you, just don't pay. You will never get another contract, but who cares

His credit is already screwed, thanks to my other brother, who stole his cards and ran them all to max. I'm gonna make sure he doesn't mind me doing it, but I already have nextel phone on my wifes contract, and we never have problems.

im not entirely sure. it was happening back in december 07/january 08, and you only had 30 days after the changes were made to cancel without ETF fees. it could still apply, though, i dont know.
