definitely agree with sticking with mix platform seems short sighted, but they're under different financial pressure I suppose...
just with the brand survive once it's nearly fully electric elsewhere... |

The 8 coupe and X2 are dead next gen. That was fast. I think Mercedes is killing the S Class Coupe off also though.

If they get rid of the X2 it would be really dumb in my opinion. Yes it's not a RWD traditional BMW but it does have the space in it and has a better look then the X1 has. Now for the Z4, it was expected to be honest, what I'm more worried about what does that mean for the Toyota Supra? Does it live on or does it die. 8 series should of been a Gran Coupe from the get go of this gen. It's sad but it's understandable as they need to be profitable for future projects such as the I models. Also if they do get rid of the X2 why don't they get rid of the X1 as well from what the rumours are saying there is a model to slot between the X1/X2 called Urban X.

Looking forward to the electric X3 but that range is TERRIBLE!
Probably to compete against the Q8?

An iX3 with RWD only and 155 miles of range will be DOA in the US. Audi and Mercedes have already disappointed w/ their 200 mile range electric SUVs, and w/ BMW being even later to the game, this is just awful news.
I'm hoping that the i4 and iNext/i6 deliver on their range promises, as 375 miles (at least for top trim tiers) is pretty impressive. Say what you will about Tesla, but two things they have down is range and charging. The Germans who are usually ahead of every other manufacturer, have some catching up to do. |

BMW thinks if they eliminate ineffective & inexpensive models, and add more expensive models they can survive.... BMW is so far behind the 🎱 Eight ball, It's not even funny.

Less models may not be a bad thing but RIP 8 series coupe.
Seems like the coupe is haunted or has bad luck just like the original 8 series coupe. Folks get your M8 series coupe quickly this is going to be a car that will appreciate in the future. I am happy the 8 series GC will stay though but wow lots of changes and geez Donald Trump is again directly responsible for changes made to global companies. I do not like the idea of one man having this much power. Look whats been happening with Huawei. Anyway let's see how this unfolds.

X8 makes no sense.
So it won't be as big as the X7, wouldn't it be the same as the X6 size? I don't see how a X6 and X8 would co exist or why they would. Unless it's going to be $100k to start and compete with the super high end SUVs and the X8M would be around $140k. |

BMW Group is clearly regrouping but just like any large corporation driven by quarterly earnings it's a reactionary response to a crisis which had been brewing for a while.
Report card: - EV strategy and execution: F. If GM can take apart Honda Accord in the 90s to learn why buyers prefer it over Chevy Malibu, so can BMW with its competitors. - Simplifying product portfolio: B. X1 ought to be retired in favor of X2. Keeping 8 series Gran Coupe is a prudent decision. Four doors appeal to more buyers. 3 series GT was a poorly conceived model. |

Z4 has always been an odd car I think. It doesn't sell very well and it doesn't fit with BMW demographics. They only brought it back because of Toyota and the partnership.
I would be suspicious if they kill the Z4 early since Supra is important to Toyota. By the way, I have seen more X2 on the road than the X1 lately. Why kill off the X2? Then just released the 8 series, and is already planning on killing the coupe but says hey the X8 is good to go!!! :

I can understand some of the reasons for getting rid of some models but why keep the 6GT even if its Norbert's favourite?
Standard 7 series being axed sounds sensible if the 8GC will remain. Surprised to see the 8er coupe / convertible being axed though after the huge fanfare they have given it. Would be awesome if they brought back a 6er coupe / convertible though. Shame about the Z4 |
