JB3 map switch info...
From BMS:
Hey guys, I've had a lot of questions on the JB3 map switch so I wanted to post up some additional information and photos. Each JB3 is shipping with 3 maps. Our high boost map, a low boost map, and a valet (stock) map. We will be offering additional maps down the road as well. We've designed the map switch system to be expandable, meaning we plan to offer a variety of map switches down the road. We have plans for a wireless switch, a switch with 4 positions to mate to a race map we are working on, etc. As it stands right now we only have one switch ready to go, a basic on-off-on wired switch that can be mounted in the engine bay or run in to the glove box. I suspect 98% of you will leave it in the engine bay as shown. This switch will need to be purchased if you want to run the low boost or valet map, otherwise the JB3 defaults to the high boost map with no switch. We will be adding it to the website shortly (waiting for the switches to arrive first), and will offer free shipping on it since it wasn't there in time for the JB3 orders. Price will be $22 for the 12" wire version. $30 for the same switch with longer wire to run inside the cabin. Please forgive my very very dirty engine bay. As you can see the cowl is off but the switch is accessible from that location with the cowl and covers installed. |

I guess 11.8 second quarter mile runs will do that.....

2 ?'s:
Is that a three position switch then? Just asking because it looks like a 2 position, which is confusing for three maps. How does it mount there? Does the wire just get "pinched" in the off-white ECU plastic cover? What I'm asking is, how does the wire exit the ECU housing? I plan on mounting mine with zero cutting/drilling/mounting, etc, to make for 100% invisibility when removed. Hopefully this is possible. Last edited by ezatnova; 08-16-2008 at 08:22 AM.. |

Genius idea
It's Friday evening and the beer talking, but, what about selling a Rix boost guage with TWO buttons on it. One for the dimmer/programming changes like now, and one to cycle JB3 maps!?
(Throw me a cheap gauge if you end up using it and making crazy sales from it! ) |

Great stuff!
Of course, the wireless is better, but this is great until the upgrade.

Not bashing the JB3 but one of the key benefits I figured over procede was the lack of an external ground. Now you have an external switch so the benefit of that is gone.
Also how can overseas customers input new maps? From what I have read you need to replace a chip or something. Would that not mean extra shipping charges and opening up the ECU for access. As indicated above above I'm not bashing, just trying to understand the differences. |

I think it would be better if the switch worked like this one...at least you can tell which map you are switching to without question
http://www.turboxs.com/pic.php?ID=202 I had it on my WRX
