How are dental hygienists compensated in the United States?

Curious about this. Are hygienists mostly independent contractors or full time employees of the dental practice (firm)? Is compensation fixed or variable?

I dunno, but has anyone else noticed that 90% of dental hygienists are hot af? Is this the backup plan for every woman whose modeling career doesn’t pan out?

My girlfriend is operations manager for a dental company in MN here, shoot me a PM and I can answer any questions you may have. Hygienists pay is pretty darn good here in MN , not sure about any other states though.

My ex fiance's sister is a hygienist. She is paid an hourly rate and works 40+ hrs a week. Hygienists make good money in NJ.... And yes she is a hotty.

Thanks for the comments.

Using my friend Google, it seems common practice to compensate hygienists with commission, or salary + commission.

Does this mean that they have an incentive to increase number of visits?

Does commission compensation create an agency problem in the case of a health care provider?

She must work for a couple different dentist practices as most dentists only work 3.5-4 days a week (~30 hours/week).

There are, with high certainty, dental professionals on this site. Do any dental professionals care to comment on the original question?

My wife used to be a hygienist. Now been a dentist for 2 years.

Wages used to be £54/$70 an hour as a hygienist over here several years ago.
