A number of vehicles on the market are having automatic braking issues
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that NHTSA is getting a lot of reports on automatic braking is applying breaks for no reason. Not just BMW, across all brands.
This is behind a paywall but you might be able to see it. https://www.wsj.com/articles/as-auto...hp_featst_pos2 |

My truck has it and it's usually on. In the year that I've owned it I think it's activated five times? One of those times you could argue that I was braking late. (though I don't think I was going to hit anyone) The other four were annoying. One time I wasn't close to the car in front of me in slow traffic. The others were cars making right turns in front of me and the car deciding that they were still in my lane. My truck basically keeps braking until you're completely stopped, which is pretty obnoxious.

I dunno. I think these automatic braking features are helping to combat Karens and Chads texting while driving.

My wife’s m235i has this “feature” and it’s a nightmare.
There is one particularly short highway on ramp in my neighbourhood that you need to merge quickly and usually in a tight space between cars. This “feature” does not like that. Every time I merge, it hits the brakes because I am to close to the car in front in its mind. Brutal |

I can’t seem too. I can turn everything else off and it stays off, but I can’t get this to stay off, or get the car to stay in sport mode either. It resets to economy mode every time I shut it off.

I think that automatic emergency braking may not be cancellable.

It can be defeated in BMW's. Our local BMW track club has a policy that it must be disabled (for obvious reasons). They know for certain how to disable on BMW's, the other companies not as much.
Agree with other comments, the concept is good, execution not so much given the car doesn't understand enough variables (e.g. lanes, signal lights etc). |
