Well, not everyone can install a two post lift. They don't have the right concrete with the specified psi. They might not have the height in their garage. They might not want to spend $1600 to $2000.00 for a two post lift.
If you get the car off the ground 21-22", you can do anything on the car, even remove the transmission. I get what you are saying. Spending $1000.00 on an item that only nets you 5 more inches than a good/great set of 3 ton jack stands. Simply stated though, you can't take the transmission out of the car on a set of 16", 3 ton jack stands. You can spend $1600 and get the car up in the air 6 plus feet. I totally understand this. Quick jack is a lot safer than jack stands. I've done the whole jack stand deal for many years with 3 ton versions and a 3 ton jack. Idk. Getting older and wiser I guess. I just don't need a car falling on me at this stage in the game. I also don't have 12 foot ceilings and a garage floor with 3000 psi grade concrete. So, my choice was simple. If I had 12' ceilings, maybe I might have entertained the thought of cutting two squares out of my garage floor, digging 48" down with a post hole digger, in order to get below the Frost line, and then pouring 3000psi in the holes. |

I love mine. Got it from Quickjack directly through their garage sale tab. $990 shipped for open box. Mine had the box opened on one of the lifts, but didn't seem used at all.

too bad it's only 5,000lbs capacity (I have a good concrete floor but only 8' ceiling height). The X5 weighs 6000lbs.
I don't even crawl under my E30 anymore, lol. I hate getting out the jack, screwing around with jack stands, etc. Plus it's so low I have to drive up on ramps first - so is the E90, and it's stock. |

You can get a Max Jack for like 1 999$ that will fit mostly everywhere. Only issue becomes the concrete rating. I'm sure I can also remove transmission on jack stands and as an added bonus I won't have things in the way on the side of the car since the Quickjack blocks all access there. Regarding safety I think it is so exaggerated. If you have basic jacking safety which you should if you have DIYed all this time, I really can't understand how this is safer to the point of it being worth 800$ more. If your car is on stands and it's stable how is it going to fall over. |

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

My 2012 X5 35i I had weighed at a certification station and it came it at 4800lbs I think. I used my Quickjack with no problems. 6,000lbs is the towing capacity. Maybe you are thinking of that number? |

we have the 4.8is, sport package, 3rd row seat, blah blah blah. it's maybe slightly less than 6000lbs, but it's a heavy pig. I did not relish dropping the subframe on it and crawling around under the engine block..

I've been using jack stands for the last little while. I never had good feeling during set-up. But once it's up it's solid. I just don't like the fiddling around.
My garage fits 4 cars with a 14' ceiling. Been contemplating a 4-post, but that doesn't allow me to perform tire/whee/brake work. So looked into a 2-post. However they look ugly and cumbersome. As a guy that performs some but not a whole lot of undercarriage work, having a full time two post contraption doesn't make sense. Recently I acquired the 5000SLX through a friend who had two for a total sum of $500. It's real easy to set up and put away. I now look forward to undercarriage work. And it's not an eyesore when not in use. Most importantly it has high WAF rating...happy wife happy life. |

a 4 post lift would totally ruin my garage - which isn't all that small for only being a 2 car attached (660sq ft). |

@[Efthreeoh] I do not doubt it. After all that's how the mechanics do it. As a part time low frequency wrencher, a fully bolted on contraption does not appeal to me. QJ being portable, one can load them up at the back and drive to a friend's or relative's home and use it...especially for the 3500SLX at club race events. |

I just measured - on the side without a door opener, I could lift my car about 4 feet.
The X5 is such a giant pig though, I probably couldn't lift it much more than the jackstands lol. |

I had an x5. You could use a quick jack on it, if you had standard 10' ceilings in your garage. Most houses built after 1990 have 10' ceilings unless you had an expensive house where they had 12' ceilings like a 3 car garage deal.

My house was built in 1978, so...
Also, as stated already - the curb weight of my X5 is over the capacity of a quick jack. The 2 row E70 4.8i weighs 5300 lbs - and we have the fully loaded 3 row 4.8is. It's heavy as lead. You may be comfortable overloading the jacks, but personally I am not. To answer an earlier question, above my garage is our deck. So raising it up isn't an option. Fortunately I do have the benefit of a garage designed around 40ft long, 1970's American land yachts. Newer garages may be taller, but they are usually narrower and certainly much shorter.. |
