Road and Track stated that apparently most of the interior was gutted according to eye-witnesses and inside sources - hence the extremely dark tint, and the car looks fairly lowered and is wearing race track oriented tires (although they are just about street legal), but regardless it will likely do well on the Nürburgring.
I think that it has a chance at beating the Taycan mostly because when Elon first tweeted, we all thought he was talking about the normal P100D which is known to go into limp-home mode, when in fact he kind of tricked us in a sense by revealing that it will be using a new powertrain all together (plaid triple motor system) after the fact, one of which we have no idea when it will reach the public. In my opinion, the Nürburgring doesn't have any effect on my purchasing decisions, its more of a pissing match between automakers, but if Tesla does win, it is going to be very annoying to hear Musk's twitter gloating and all of his cult followers rejoicing in this. We all know how annoying the Tesla fanboys can be. |

As someone else said, it's not a stock car so the point is moot. Musk is too scared to use a stock car and had to cheat with modifications.

Was there a passenger in the car with a laptop connected to car doing tuning on the fly like Tesla did with a previous Tesla attempt at the Ring?
I’ll wait to see or here an official time rather then what a couple of outsiders perceive the time to be. Prototypes don’t count.

Even if the car is not stock (which was the case with the Porsche as well), the bottom line is the fact that the Model S can be talked about as having performance even close to the Taycan is impressive.

Its actually great timing seeing as Model S and X sales are down, most likely to the Model 3. At this point the Model 3's newer interior, high range and much lower price is stealing sales from the larger Model S. Apparently the "Plaid" powertrain is going to only be on the S, X, and Roadster, so it should likely increase Model S sales from its current slump.

If it beat the Porsche by 20 seconds in modified trim, the stock car should be able to beat it too, unless that car is modified to a higher degree than they are letting on. A bone stock car beating the time by 1 second would have been more impressive.

They should call the regular production version the Plaid Edition and offer a replica track edition called the Major Asshole.

The high-end teslas are known for going to limp mode on the track due to limitations of the ev motor. Musk waited until Porsche launch their new car and bragged about the Nürnberg and then all the sudden musk is like let me tell you about this new power train I've developed… And then the car shows up on Laguna Seca setting a record and the same will happen at the Nuremberg Ring.

Well I thought limp mode is more about lurdicuros mode though, would think that's a different problem than just use the model 3 motor

I've read in a few places that it was using 3 motors which kind of seems like cheating...Then again, there aren't exactly many rules here.
Would be interesting if this was the new Roadster powertrain with a modified Model S body disguising it. Either way, I don't consider this as detracting from the Taycan in the slightest. Also keep in mind that although I'm excited to see what happens in the EV wars and feel we have a ton of evolution ahead of us, 7m23s is still slow compared to the numbers top track focused cars (GT3 RS at 6m56s) put up. I'm sure a 3 motor Model S isn't substantially cheaper than GT3 RS MSRP...heck the 2021 Tesla Roadster is likely starting at $200k+...but I'm excited to see where all this goes.
