Vents under front seats?
Does anyone know what are these vents under front seats?
The look is not so good and every time I notice them I feel BMW could have done a better job of integrating them properly. Currently, they just seems to be jutted out cheap plastic. Did anyone notice same in their X5? |

Floor vents for the rear seat passengers (#9 in the diagram of the air vents...there's one on each side {left/right} although only 1 appears in the diagrams illustration). When you direct the IHKA air distribution to the floor vents...these are the vents that send the air to the rear passengers.
https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/search/...iX/USA/64_2436 The illustration below is from the e38/e39 era...but the design architecture is the same with floor vents for the rear passengers being located beneath the two front passenger seats

Wait till something gets stuck in it and you hear it rolling around. Happened on my X3. Had to take end piece off to stick vacuum extension in to suck it out.I couldn't get to it with it on.

It does cover the "ugly hole in the floor syndrome," but as someone mentioned, more to keep the assorted wildlife on the floor (marbles, M&Ms, purse contents, coins) from finding their way into the inaccessible HVAC ducts under the carpet. At least the BMW vents are somewhat raised off the surface - Audi's were flush with the carpet.

Just followed the Ebay links from a previous poster:
https://ebay.us/ixHnAL https://ebay.us/6cROGR There are several vendors, and they all look like they're from the same place in China - I just found the cheapest that looked substantial. |

My concern would be increased noise by making a “hiss” sound when the air is moving through the holes.
There is a advantage why most floor vents look like a open tube with smooth bends. The open smooth design of the floor vents is to lower ambient noise and increase maximum air flow. For example, half close the B pillar vents behind the front seats on our new X5 and you will hear them instantly when the air is flowing through them. Open them all the way up and they are silent.
