maybe the trade off is having a bigger pano roof?
I dont mind as i'm too old to stand up in the driver side seat with half my body sticking out the sunroof while riding down the highway the opening is fairly small, but even if it was larger, it would not make a difference for me personally. |

during the ordering of my m50d I ordered panorama without that lights. Then I compare the open space to my 2018 VW Tiguan (like 2.5 times less expensive then g05), and I saw that Tiguan has much more open space then BMW, so I swapt that for some other parts. I think that is one of the parts where they done very poor job.

Yep I’m disappointed with the roof. The illumination isn’t that great and I really miss the big opening front panel like in the F15. In the UK the roof is a crazy price compared with most of the G05’s competition. IMHO a fixed glass roof should be standard at this tier and the options come in for opening / LED’s if people really want them...

Not sure of BMW's reason, function/ideal use: probably thinks people no longer use or need a larger opening, surveys?? technical: maybe some technical requirements that prevented them from opening it all the way?? cost savings: maybe to offset the cost of the larger pano roof?? We only have 1 option in the UK and thats pay £2.5k for the nightclub LED's and 1 foot opening sunroof, or have a metal roof. |

I didn’t notice the opening to be smaller, but the G05 has two stops on the sunroof opening. When you pull the switch to open it, it stops at a partial open to keep wind noise lower. If you pull the switch again, it will go to the fully open position.
OP, could it be that you are not opening the roof all the way? Last edited by AEC; 10-17-2019 at 12:38 PM.. |

If im reading correctly, must be a cost saving thing. the cost to make the whole pano tilt in the front and back can be substantial. |

I could be wrong with both panes tilting on the F15. My E70 has both panes that tilt, though.

The the F15 had both panels tilting or the front panel slid back in two stages. The first is the comfort stage and the second is maximum opening.
The F15’s roof slid back internally whereas the G05’s slides back on the outside above the larger back panel. Not sure what I think about the over the top slide. I guess it does allow for more headroom in the car... |

Also the G05’s smaller front panel does slide back in two stages. A smaller gap to start with which creates less pressure issues in the cabin and the larger fully open stage.

pretty cool, f15 does the double tilt...noticed the difference is the F15 glass goes under when open. G05 has the glass on top when open. most likely cost savings.
