*New Style RPI Scoops Installed!*

I don't know if you have seen my previous thread about the RPI scoops but I have always been a firm believer about the scoops. They do such a great job with making the vacuum style stock intake system into a ram air system.

I've noticed lately that the styling has changed. They definitely grab more air!
The scoops are angled on the edges to take advantage of the entire OEM grill. They drop down the same as the old ones so proper flow still goes to the radiator. I've measured the water temperature before and after the scoops were installed and the temps are the same. This is not surprising since our water pumps strive to reach specific temperatures anyways.

Anyways, I'm exteremely happy with this design. You can see in the pics the amount of R&D that went into these scoops. Also, the scoop on the Driver's side is a tad smaller than the passenger's side since it has a smaller distance to be traveled than the passenger's side. You'll see this when you look at the snorkel.

The scoops come in red. I was going to paint them black, but then I just painted them anodized bronze, just to be a little different. You reallyu can't tell once they're installed.
I took pics of the old scoops to compare the difference between the new ones.

Will that hurt your radiator temps?

I do.
Just imagine all of the cold air the AFE is going to be sucking in.

were tests ever done that show these actually help in any way? I'm talking hard facts, not just assumptions

RPI has done testing with scoops on the stock air box, but I have not.
They've found good increases on the dyno.

I'm honestly a little burnt out on the dynos lately, but the seat of my pants notices great results.
Especially with the AFE intake!
Without the scoops, in order for the AFE intake to get cold air there would need to be enough air in the front of the radiator to build pressure for air to travel through the snorkel.
With the scoops, the cold air will be traveling to the AFE filters as soon as you start to move.

Problem is, they aren't cheap! $200--I am lucky enough to have gotten them for my birthday....

Thanks for the explanation--I haven't installed these on my 135 yet--have you messed around with a 135 at all? I am wondering if these are going to fit--Eloy simply said he assumed that the 135 and 335 would be the same in this general area....

+1. They probably cost ~ $5 to make; they look like tin cans. Not saying they don't do what they're supposed to, but they should be ~ $50, imho as well...even at $10 mfgr cost, $50/set is a 500% markup. At $200, they're just a rip!

Guys guys, come on.
I know how you're feeling about the price but I'm telling you that they work awesome.

I personaly don't understand why people would spend as much as they do to tint their windows, but people do it. If it's not for you then fine, but these scoops look great, they work great, and I'm confident that there's been some true engineering behind the product.

Wholy crap, $200 for those? I can water jet that and break it on the press in a few minutes. Hmm, maybe its time to start selling my own version for half the price!

Tinting your windows is a necessary thing (cuts way down on interior heat and interior fade from UV rays) to to to all cars in some areas of the country, and it takes the installer about 1-2 hours of labor time + the window film; that's worth $200, unless you get your BMW CA to "throw it in" to the deal like I did. Like we've said, these air scoops probably do their job, but they're not worth $200. Maybe they'll go on sale to $50 in ~ 3 months????

The only thing that tinted windows does for me is make it harder to see cops and other cars on the road.
I had tinted windows when I was in high school but, one day I took the film off since it turned purple (cheap stuff), and instead of doing it again, I kept the clear glass. I was thinking about how much better it was with no film at all.
Tinted windows is way too over hyped, IMO.
Now, back on topic.
