Another JB3 Review...
Got the JB3 yesterday and i put it on my brother's car...mine will remain stock with no mods as it will be my daily driver so i don't need all the power... his car is a pre-march 08 production so it does not have the 29.2 ECU...
Anyways, cut to the chase, installation took me about 30 minutes, most of that time was spent removing the damn cabin filter tray. If you can install the previous JB2, this is the same thing with a few more wires, work each ECU one at a time, there is a PDF on bmwjuice.com to show you where all the wires go....anyways, wired everything, left the ecu and tray opened and fired it up. No codes, idle was smooth and seems like stock... Now onto the road test, took it around the block a few times just to make sure nothing was acting up...no surprises here, everything was good. Let the oil temp get up to 200 then we went on the nearest onramp onto a highway...punched it in 3rd gear at about 60 and all i could see was cars coming up really really fast. i look over at my brother's face and it was priceless, i'm not sure and he won't tell me but i think he shit his pants. Throttle response was great, power was linear and it pulled and pulled...this is the fastest tune i've ever driven. I've tried it all, AA, Procede V2 and V3, SSTT, JBHR...this is by far the smoothest and best tune for this vehicle. Outside temperature was 80 degrees and i drove it for an hour very hard and it did not cause any problems. Oil temp seems to be normal hovering around 220-230. JB3 on pump gas has the same power as a JB2HHR on race gas...(according to my butt dyno. I'm sure after a few more days of adaptation, it'll get even faster. If you're on the fence about what to get, this is the best bang for the buck, and i think it might be the best overall. Prior to this my brother has been using JB2H for the past 8 months and it has not thrown any codes or anything. If history repeats itself, this is just as reliable as the previous. Cheers to Terry for making another great tune at an affordable price for all of us who don't shit money...

Congrats ... Seems like jb3 is really hitting the bullseye. |

9/15 can't come too soon!
"..but i think he shit his pants" With that in mind, I plan to wear a Depends the first time I test drive (my) my brother's car.

Thanks for the good review! Im interested in hearing more peoples opinions about how the car reacts (ie. limps!) when pushed REALLY hard. Although I rarely ever push my car hard its good to know that if, on the rare occasion you do, that you wont be bummed out when you see the damn LIMP mode. With my Xede on my car I drove it like I stole it (literally) several times and got limps. Then again it got to the point where I was just driving 70 on the HWY and got them too. Turns out it was a bad O2 sensor, or so I think. I have yet to re-install the AA Xede and will probably leave it out and opt for the JB3 when the economy turns around for me.
FYI, one of the reasons that Im interested in the JB3 has to do with customer support! From reading all these posts it appears that Terry and Rix do a MUCH better job of this than any other tuner on the board. I feel like AA just abandoned their 'good' support on their product and IMO without support for tuning like this, you are left with a bad feeling. Im sure that AA is doing a search for "AA" and "Xede" so they will probably read this and at the risk of thread jacking, Id like to preemptively respond to their possible question of "where did we drop the ball". (Back on to JB3) It not so much that they dropped the ball (well, ok I think they did) but it really comes down to what I said above in that it appears that BMS is more focused on follow through. And, once again, that means a LOT to a potential customer/client. Keep the reviews coming and, like I said, Id like to hear from people who beat the $hit out of their cars with JB3 installed so I can feel comfortable when I put my name on the 'backorder' list. |

I have intentionally avoided reading all of these threads because I didn't want to spend more money on the next latest and greatest. Wallet just got lighter a couple of clicks ago!!! Damn you Burgermotorsports.

I hear ya...its hard to justify ANY unneeded expense with these days. BUT its just too damn tempting reading all the positives.
For me the attraction comes with "stock linear feel". That was my biggest complaint about the Xede. Not to mention having to bypass the solenoids. Although its not that big of deal i always fear Im going to break it when I pull the hose off! |

great response
Not to "jack" this thread (great review) but Terry and Rix have both been outstanding when I send them an email of PM and I haven't even been able to buy the product YET.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's way faster than anything out there...but it's fast, freakishly fast. But that's not everything, drivability, it behaves like a stock car till you open it up...and as mentioned before, customer service from BMS is top notch...

JB3, PROcede V2/V3 all make the same smooth power of about 345 rwhp peak on 91 Octane on an otherwise stock car. The smoothness came when v2 started to use both solenoids for boost. It is the best way to do it. Honestly, you could take a handful of cars with JB3, PROcede v2, PROcede v3 and have 100 people jump between the three, and without knowing which tune was in each car, there would be VERY few, if any people who could accurately tell which tune was in which car. Enjoy your new found power. |
