I'm fairly deep into mattress shopping and would like to learn forum members' mattress haves and wants.
Personally I'm moving up from a Queen to a California King. I've been gravitating towards a Purple.4 Hybrid, but even on sale it's $3300... A Saatva is only $1500! What mattress are you sleeping on or looking at? https://purple.com/mattresses/hybrid-premier https://www.saatvamattress.com/saatva-mattress.html

We have the Saatva and have been pleased overall but we got the firm which I find too firm though my wife loves it. Living with it for now but you'll definitely want the luxury firm at a minimum. I have looked at the purple as well but the price point keeps me away so when we replace our current mattress it will likely be another Saatva but the softer option.

I bought (semi) locally to St. Louis with a small manufacturer in southern IL...but...since you're in metro-NYC (and specifically NJ), you should probably check out Charles P. Rodgers: www.charlesprogers.com/all-mattresses.html
I basically created a similar mattress with my local manufacturer...with a mix of latex, foam, and nano springs. -Mark in St. Louis |

Well I know one thing for sure and that's stay away from Sleep Number. Absolute junk! We've also been looking at new mattresses and have been thinking about just going back to an old school type. We have a place called Original Mattress Factory locally that make them on site and have a no b.s. business type. Anytime I sleep on a normal mattress I miss them.

I like it, but I don't sleep much anyway. My wife has no problem "maxing" her sleep out on it though!

I had a Tempur hybrid - it was foam and coils. I loved that mattress! It was expensive. I bought a new bed when my SO and I bought a house last year and wanted to buy the same mattress (I went from a full size to king) but went a different route because he thought I was crazy spending 4 grand on a mattress. I kick myself every single day....

My wife and I went through mattress shopping a few years ago. What a PITA.
We bought one, they explain to give it 30 days to break in. We did that and didn't like it. We upgraded to the next one, 30 days later we didn't like that either. We then went for the Memory foam high end model. Night and day difference, but very expensive. (over 5k) |

I purchased the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze a few weeks ago. It is supposed to be 8 degrees cooler and keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
They run about $4.5k for queen, but feel as It was worth it. |

We tried one of the online mattresses in a box from a recommendation through a friend. Unfortunately both of us woke up in back pain for several days, so we scraped that and decided that we love to sleep so let's not dick around on a budget model. We ended up going with TEMPUR-Cloud® Luxe, and its been great.

My wife and I like very different feels in a bed. I like it firmer and she likes it soft. Instead of compromising when spending that much, we ended up getting a Sleep Number Bed. I don't remember the model but it was about $4k. It is connected to an app that tracks your sleep patterns and makes suggestions on settings. I think that it has been pretty helpful in getting a better nights sleep.

I'll never pay more than $1500 for a bed in my life. I feel it is such a waste. I have tried sleep number, and tempurpedic and they are not worth it. As someone who sleeps hot, I have been going though all the new mattress companies popping up.
Currently I have tried Bear, Nectar, Purple, Leesa, and Casper. I'm sleeping on a Nectar mattress right now and even though it's fine and all and I think i will go back to the Purple original. It had great support, stayed cool, didn't lose its firmness after my trial period and with Black friday around the corner it seems like a good deal. I know people who have spent 4k on tempur pedic and other brands like that, and to me that's insane. They are just paying for a name, kinda like appple products. They will eventually pay it off in 5 years or something crazy like that haha. |

I bought a latex foam mattress several years back, and it's been wonderful. Has the isolation and "cush" of memory foam (i.e. Tempurpedic) without the heat. You still feel like you're sleeping on the mattress, as opposed to the sensation of a memory foam mattress where you feel like you're sleeping in the mattress.
Downsides? Cost. And weight/ease of moving.

I bought all new beds for my homes (mattresses were 8-10 years old). I looked at all the new brands like Purple. I finally bought Serta Castleviews (hybrids) for all my rooms. I find them easily as comfortable and much less expensive than anything else. I paid $599 for the Queens and $799 for the Kings.

I have a beautyrest....something. Thick ass pillow-top, roughly $3,500. It's alright. I'm ready for a new one though. A friend of mine and his wife just bought a purple mattress. He travels all the time and sleeps in hotels and I don't care for her; so I have no idea what they think about it. Hope this helps.
