Facelifted e90 335i engine updates ?
Hi,
I was wondering if BMW has updated something about the engine in the new e90 335i facelift ? Should we expect the same "29.2" turbo lag problems ? The same fuel pump and wastegate rattles ? |

Not really. There is no new engine for the 335i. It's the identical engine as in previous years. One can pretty safely assume that the engine will have the latest prog on it, which is 29.2, which introduces the lag. There has been talk about BMW replacing the fuel pumps, but I won't believe it until I (don't) see it (it being problems) on mine.
In sum, even though I was being a bit trite, I wasn't really kidding. |

I was thinking that given the fact that the hardware problems were being solved (and frankly - why not solve them ?), there is no need for a software update which introduces turbo-lag to fix those hardware problems.

I have a feeling that the lag is there so that the M3 feels faster when taken for test drives. |

There is apparently a new progman update, 31.0, coming out in Sept, so maybe BWM has managed to solve the lag problem in 2009 335i.
Hopefully, that and improved HPFP would be the updates for the N54 engine.

I still believe fuel pump failure is caused by our 10% ethanol gas.

Well, the lag was not purposely introduced to fix the rattles per se; it is just a consequence of BMW trying to fix the rattles.

Yes, yes, ?
The HDP (HPFP) is new and different. The turbos have been redesigned. One assumes both of these hardware changes will be on the 2009 Software? Who knows. It won't be 29.2

I suppose we can lock the wastegate to be closed between low rpm to say 3000 rpm. Then it have time to build up the pressure.
And why not give those 0,4 bar a push up. 0,6?

Probably the same exact engine performance..they are just admitting that it produces more than 300 bhp. More of a marketing ploy.

Where did you read that? Do you have a link? From everything that I've read and heard, the bi-turbo engine for 2009 will be identical.
