How do I reset the ecu COMPLETELY?

Hi guys,

I currently have the JB2H and the JB3 should be arriving any day now. My car was built in Feb 08 however I took delivery in July 31st. Now, I spoke to one of the Service managers at my local BMW shop. He said that they don't upgrade the ECU's when the cars arrive at their lot so I'm guessing that I have the previous software which can't detect the JB. He also said that BMW is constantly coming up with ways to figure out if there has been any tempering with the ECU. Just to be safe I want to clear out the ecu before I install the JB3 to minimize my chances of getting caught. Apparently I have no say in whether or not my software is updated if I bring the car in for ANY service so I don't want any chance of them detecting any electronic fingerprints from the JB2H... Well is there anyway to completely reset the ecu?

Also, he told me that when they are uploading the new software, if the ecu has been tempered with in the past the DME would crash/burn and as a result void the warranty and cost $2K just to replace

Not sure on the BMW but most cars ECU resets when you disconnect the battery for certain amount of time.

The hidden codes do not reset when you disconnect the battery.

Is this all scare tactics?
OR are mods, like the JB, actually detectable, pre- or post. 29.2?
Sorry for the detailed question!

I don't know thats actually a good question. I was thinking that too but then again these guys are pretty cool and dealers usually like doing warranty work since they get paid. In any case, I need to find a crooked bmw tech
