BMS Intake --> AFE Intake - Personal Review
Hi guys
I don't know about some of you guys doubting Afe Intakes (It's only looks.. losing power..), but I just replaced my BMS filter and installed my AFE intake. The feeling? It's different. Don't get me wrong, (and no offense to BMS) I had 4 great months of the BMS filter! Loved that great sound, price was excellent.. but the disadvantage of it was that I felt losing power than before (which was the stock airbox) when going from 1st all the way to 3rd. When I installed the Afe today and drove it for a while, I already felt better response in throttle in the 1st and 3rd gears. There's a much more pull than before! Not only that, the turbo spooling noise is still here. It's slightly quiet than the BMS, but as long as it's there, I'm satisfied I am also one of the "posse" that is not believing in the horsepower gains on the AFE advertisement (I should've known when they proclaimed "27 hp MAX gain, 34 lbs. x ft. MAX gain") But from what I experienced, even on the first day with this product, I believe there is a noticable difference in power and throttle response. I will continually add more experiences I'm having with this intake to inform anyone that is interested in investing one

Someone needs to run before and after tests. Butt dynos are very deceptive with intakes because of the sound difference, and sometimes a dip in torque can make someone think they gained power when it starts having to climb back up again.

Went to the strip last night with AFE. Before AFE I was running one of the drop in after market filters (forget which). Didn't seem to be a dime's worth of difference between the two.

Are you running PROcede v3, JB3, or another tune as well? If running PROcede v3, are you running the Stage 1 map?

Personally 27hp gains is absolutely ridiculous just from a intake alone...When I saw what was advertised, I just chuckled....They could have sold their intakes from just their new design alone, and not need to over inflate the gains! I personally would go with the AFE intake over the new intake from Riss thats for sure, but will not part ways with my UR CAI!!!

i think the AFE intake gets better with more mileage, i have over 1000 miles on my AFE intake and it has gotten MUCH louder than where it was at the start and i have felt better throttle response and power after the 1000 miles on it......

True.. it takes more time to adapt in order to achieve the intake's full potential. Plus, I believe these intakes will shine when the weather gets cooler.

Many OP's believe that ambient temps do not affect Turbo cars....its funny how things turn around and more and more people feel that having cold air to the intake is important now!!!

I asked that question on the forum when all the open filters first started coming out and the answers I got where that the heat didn't matter until you where talking very highly tuned and that the air is so hot once it goes through the turbos that weather it comes in at 90 degress or 200 degress, it doesn't really make a huge difference, but I think I can feel the difference on a cold day vs a hot day for sure, so I think it has to make some difference!

On a turbo or super charged engine, every 10 deg drop in air temp ~ 1% hp gain. This has been a known fact based on oxygen density change calculations and test results. Same holds true for altitude changes.
