Just a newbie saying hello to the forum!

Hi guys,

Over the weekend, just picked up a BSM/Blk/Gray poplar wood trim 335i coupe with 13 miles on it! It has steptronic, nav i-drive, heated front seats, paddle shifters, sport and premium packages, BMW assist and front license plate bracket!

Next comes OEM car alarm, clear bra, tint, painted reflectors, m3 trunk lip spoiler, OEM aero lip, and maybe a JB3?

I am concerned with washing my car. I definitely need to do more research on proper washing/waxing techniques.

Since I live in foggy and damp SF, I was wondering if there is an exterior coating I can add to the paint to protect it from corrosion/erosion??
Thanks guys (and here comes the smilies overload)

Took a coupe of shots:

Hey, welcome to the forum. Good looking car, as far as the coating you had mentioned I know that there are many aftermarket spray on protectants that car be applied to the car by certain companies. When I purchased my car there was an option of getting a protectant called something diamond. I'm not sure of the name b/c I opted against it. But Dupont and other chemical companies have introduced a bunch of different varieties. The reason I didn't go for it is b/c it creates such a good barrier that wax won't adhere to the paint and I myself like to wax my car.

Yeah, I don't know, I sort of like that license plate there, at least I know there will be a 12"x6" area free of rock chips and bug guts...

jk. that thing is coming off tomorrow! related story with my previous car, i was pulled over for going 5mph over the speed limit and the cop walked around the car and gave me a ticket for tints and no front license plate. unfortunately, my roll-down-the-window trick did not work. bummer.

With that being said, should I go for Llumar ceramic tint or Huper Optik tint? My e46 had the latter (at 35%) and it was great at blocking out the sun, but tint wasn't as dark as I'd like.

its not all that complicated. You need 1 bucket. a few 100% cotton facecloths for washing, a few large 100% cotton towels for drying (free, courtesy of Hilton Hotels) and a decent carwash soap. I like the Armor All soap as it doesn't remove the wax and is fairly spotless.

For an initial wash/wax you can use Dawn dish soap to remove what crap wax the dealer put on.

For actual wax and detailing products I now use Meguiar's. Not fancy, but it works fine.
I used Zaino religiously back in the day on a black Mustang Cobra and dark blue Viper GTS, but I don't have the time or patience for that anymore.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip! I just had my car detailed yesterday since I didn't have any time to do it myself, but I will def devote one of my weekends to pampering my car.

Also, I'm going to start calling folks around the bay area tomorrow and see if I can get an appt for clear bra to be installed before a mini road trip Sat afternoon. Any SF clear bra installers on this forum that's free Friday afternoon for a clear bra installation? Please PM me! Thanks

nah, no regrets!

alarm - 235 dollars
335i - $53k dollars
not having to wait to drive a 335i regardless of updated nav or not - priceless.
