Fuse box behind glove compartment? Radar hookup.
Another X3 in the stable and need to connect the radar detector. Can anyone confirm the closest fuse box location where I can find a switch 12v source. Is there one behind the glove box if I pull then unit out? Any easy access by prying off the side trim panel when the door is open? Any better/easier spots to connect such as the headliner light unit?

Ideally there would be a hot switched wire under the cover at the rear view mirror. But I have not yet seen anyone confirm that.
There are a ton of post on this subject. You should be able to find the information you need. Good luck! |

Two answers, well OK three.
First: There is a paper schematic in the back fuse box. It is on the right side behind the panel that can be removed. This paper schematic tells you everything you need to know. Second: There are two front fuse boxes. First is on the right side under the kick panel. This is what you want. Second is buried in the same area and is vertical. The second is a PITA to get to. Third: Search baby. Search. I can think of three threads that are discussing EXACTLY this. And, probably your next question of which fuses turn off the motor noises inside the car and which opens the exhaust flap. Did I mention a simple search will answer all the questions you have been asking over the past week? |

Damn, I loved that site!
I did the same project. Removing the glove box is fairly easy. There are about 9 torx screws around the perimeter of the opening and then it lifts off. I connected to the fuse port for the rear seat power outlet. I picked that one because it’s not used very often for other things. The hardest part was connecting the ground wire. I found am exiting ground near the fuse panel but access was very difficult. I used a very small socket wrench but clearance is very low and could only make very short turns. The project took a few hours, but mostly because I had not done it before. A mirror tap would have been much quicker and easier but not nearly as rewarding or educational. Having said that, I am awaiting delivery on a mirror tap for my wife’s F23 because the fuse box is in the engine bay and I don’t want to deal with getting the power supply through the firewall. |

My X3 has the gestures feature, any radar under the mirror is worthless as laser goes off non stop. Had to send back my mirror mount. Decided to install mine on the driver side which is off the A pillar. Plenty of 12V connections on that side of the car.

I end up took out the side plastic panel near the foot well to have more access to the fuse box and more room to hide wires from my PMP |
