My 850CSi doesn't, it just has a storage hole there. It seems most before ~93 have the 6x Cassette holder and most after that just have a cubby hole.

Ironically my M6 is similar, all pre-LCI sold in NZ have the 6x CD changer in the glovebox but LCI onwards just has a hole there as well but it was still an option.

It was an accessory that fit the 3 series storage hole when I got my car. The dealer added it for free. I loved how they popped out.

Have one in my E36 M3.

And you can swap the (Fischer) trays to CD ones.
