Official Fixed Gear Bicycle Thread!
I just recently purchased my first fixie a giant bowery smash and I've been loving it. I've been riding bmw bikes most of my life but decided to try something new. Just seeing if there is any other members on here that have em and ride! I'm trying to learn how to skid stop fuckin hard for now but I'm sure I will get it in time.

The point is you put flat spots on your tires.
Actually, if you don't have a front brake, stopping with just your pedals is killer on your knees. Hopping up a little bit and stiffening your back leg can lock it and skid pretty easily, and save you a lot of pain, if it does kill the tires. It really doesn't take too much longer to stop either. Been riding fixie for quite some time. Specialized Langster, riding 50x18 on one side for the hills, suicide 50x16 on the other for when I want to go fast on flat spots. Luckily there aren't too many hills here in MD. |

What is the main advantage to fixed gear and why would anyone want one? Just curious..I think they are interesting.

haha well i ride fixed gear just for fun... for me its exercise cause i dont like running as much. been to the track once but never really liked the set up there... i mean just free riding on the track is fun but following their rules is no fun.
i have an 08 bianchi pista on white deep v's... i'm thinking of getting another one... super pista ? or maybe a aluminum geared bike.

they're also lighter, easier to maintain (less parts), and more efficient (less chain=less lag) only drawbacks i can think of is the strength needed to go up hills and it takes a toll on your knees
