N55 + JB4 + MHD + Pureturbo stg.2
Hi,
I did some searching but did not find want I looked for. My friend has a F30 335ix, Pure turbo was installed (stg2), Dorch HPFP and now we would like to tune it. For various reasons we would prefer using the JB4 + MHD custom tune. I heard that JB4 blocks some communication between the 8AT trans and the ECU, which is not very good for this goal. Is it right? I know there is also the bootmod3 option or MHD custom (no JB4) option.. but lets take this JB4 into consideration too. Thanks.

Unless there is a specific reason to keep it, custom tune with MHD or BM3 (no JB4) and PS2+HPFP+FBO is a proven recipe to make power easily and reliably. Also, definitely get XHP if you have not already. |

For the JB4 front check the N55 hybrid turbo thread, they have free MHD maps and JB4 settings and will provide free custom tuning advice when you send in logs. It's the safest and easiest way to go. Gives a ton of features not possible flash only, extra safety and on the fly changes, and almost most importantly are not fully dependent on a custom tuner to make any little change you need for your car.

OK guys, thanks for your help, I did not have much time when I was writing the thread. I have E92 335i with JB4 and MHD custom tune, made by Trebila. This guy did couple of tunes for my friends, I know he is reliable and works in a safe and responsible manner. I got few tips from the Dorch manufacturer, regarding bmod3 tuners etc.. I know there are many great guys who would do it.. But me personally, as I am a little involved in the tuning, I just like the JB4 features and ease of use. Map switching, extra safety, logging... I think it has something to offer.
So JB4 and a custom tune by Trebila is the way we would like to go. From what I heard some time ago, there might be some problem with JB4 only - with AT F3x cars. But I have been assured that with a custom flash, it would be OK

Sorry, I am not wrong. I am helping my friend to mod his F30 335xi, as I stated at the beginning of the thread. I just said I would prefer to take the route that worked perfectly for me on the N54 platform

I've not heard of a problem with JB4 and auto trans. Maybe what you are referring to is that with JB4 only, you are making a bunch of additional power and the AT clutches slip. With the addition of a backend flash to the JB4 this issue is solved. The JB4 reports a higher level of torque to the DME. The DME then increases the line pressure in the AT which prevents the slippage. |
