Pros and Cons (BM3 vs MHD)

Hey guys, finally made the decision of tuning my car (435i xDrive). I will be going from stock straight to DP, FMIC, CP, and tune. I believe that is stage 2 for both MHD and BM3. But I'd like to hear some pros and cons of both platforms before I make my decision. MHD is much cheaper and you don't have to buy each individual OTS tune, unlike BM3. And with BM3 I hear you can disable the speed governor (which came with my car's all-season run flat tires) and also disable the O2 sensor on the DP. That's really all I know about each platform. One question I do have is if you can run data logs on BM3, because I know on MHD they are very detailed and include a lot of information.

Anyways, I'd like to hear from you guys about each tune.

Huh?? $50 gets you ALL available S1/S2 Maps including e30 mix, PLUS if bought New, license can be sold for 1/2 of what you paid ..

Yes, you can data log. You can also set log to “auto start” at specific rpm and duration.

Based on your lines of questions I'd say go BM3!!

sometimes searching using the actual forum's search feature isn't the best, on mobile at least, use google and try "f30 n55 bm3 vs mhd site:f30.bimmerpost.com" and 10 threads pop right up.. hope that helps a little

You are asking such basic questions that you have clearly never researched neither MHD nor BM3. Not to be mean but as mentioned above, sooooo many threads on this topic. There is no wrong answer. Do your research on both and just pick one. Simple as that.

Sorry, I have, and don't want to try and pick information from 10+ pages on 4 year old BM3 and MHD threads.

The original software license is $595, if we are talking about BM3. You can spend $50 after that on a bundle to get the rest of the OTS maps. With the original license you only get to pick one.

Yes, that's correct. You can choose any one map of your choice. However, you do not buy EACH individual map after that...$50 Map bundle gets you all of them. If you can't justify an additional $50 for approx. 17 different Maps (S1 & S2)...perhaps, this is not for you.

That's the nature of research sometimes. If you want to truly understand the nuances of each tune you need to do your due dillengence and read though their official documentation first (in which case you would have been able to answer your own questions in OP). Otherwise, if you dont care about the nuances, just pick one because they both work.

If you find an old thread and read through it, you can bump it and ask a question or see if things have changed. Honestly the pros/cons of each have not really changed in the last near, nor has the base functionality.

Both tunes can datalog.

Both tunes can disable CEL for secondary O2.

Both tunes can remove speed limiter.

Both tunes are nearly the same price and have almost identical features.

The main difference in tuning approach is MHD is load based and BM3 is boost based.

Just pick whichever flashing platform works best for you...

I went through all the threads and read every page (even the old stuff) before making my decision.
