f30 335d - how do I know when 4wd in use?
hi everyone,
I've had my 2013 335d msport xdrive for 3weeks now and love it. however I've been told that the car generally works in 2wd unless it requires the 4wd system. how would I know when the 4wd system is doing anything? is there a coding thing I could do with bimmercode? I have noticed it going around our UK roundabouts very well, to the degree my wife said I was going to fast around them. I know id know in the know, just curious really |

Not sure its RWD unless slip on the rear axle. I've seen an article saying it's 40:60 by default and can change to 0:100 or to 100:0 if needed. This article only describes a few models: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_xDrive

Under normal driving conditions I'm unaware of even having xDrive. Going up my 35% grade driveway from a standing start with 6 inches of fresh snow without a hint of slipping I am aware of it, and thankful for it.

Bill I certainly am aware of it.
You can feel it pulling the front end around when making a right turn Briskly from a stop. Don’t mind it at all, as I used to have a Talon AWD, before I switched back to rwd with two bimmer wagons before The f31. Jsut a different driving style and handling dynamic that I’m Personally already used to. And OP, it’s 40:60 default.

- Slow maneuvering - Speed >180 km/h In all other cases you have a permanent 4WD with a variable distirbution (default 40:60, maximum 50:50, minimum 0:100)

It is variable between 50:50 and 0:100, with a default at 40:60. It can phyically not go 100:0. When the clutch in the transfer case closes fully, you have 50:50.

In california where its 70+ all year for the most part I never know when it's on, or off.
Yes going high speed out of a corner I can feel it pulls out of it different than a FWD or RWD car, but otherwise it's seamless. |

Again - because it is always on! (with minor/rare exceptions).
