Over fill coolant

My friend wanted me to check over his newly purchased E90. I noticed the coolant reservoir was 2 cups over filled. I think they thought the float should be completely at the top when in reality the top line should be level with the reservoir

He asked if there were any ill affects from driving with it like this?

The lower ball on the reservoir float stick should be at the level of the top of the filler neck.

Yes correct, I had to remove 2 cups of fluid to get it filled correctly. The seller didn't know that. Did it cause harm? Excess pressure on the reservoir maybe?

it will cause increased pressure.
the air gap at the top of the reservoir is there to allow for the coolant expansion.
if it didn't pop a hose or the bottle it's fine.

You're fine if you've removed the excess.

I'm assuming if the pressure gets too high would it bleed through the cap?

Yes. The cap is a pressure relief valve.

Yep. That's what it does.
