Winter Tires for X3 M40i

Moving to Colorado, need to get a 2nd set of tires for the M40i.

Looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV ZP as well as the Blizzack LM001 RFT, Any recommendations?

Better to spend the extra $$ and get a whole new wheel & tire set from tire-Rack?

Thanks for the help!

I have the Alpin 5 ZP on 19" for our winter in Canada, BC which is probably a lot milder than what you will experience.
I am very happy with it, was sad to switch back to the Dueler all seasons.
Ride quality is excellent.
Blizzack will probably be better for more extreme environments

nokian hakapaletta is a really good one for winter, and one i'm considering for my second set. previously I did alpin p4s on my audi and loved them, but didn't need severe winter tires.

I seriously doubt it. The 698 19" wheels just barely clear.

Works for me

I got the LM001s on 698s for my 2018 X3M40i and they have been great! The tires have been through 2 winters (Eastern Washington, Idaho panhandle) and still have 75% tread. They stick as well or better than the Ice-Xs I had on my '07 X3

In fact, I switched my summer tires to the 698s, as I like the look better.

If another forum member has a full set of snows on 698s, I'd give it a serious look.

Most would say no, and so would I for UK, but I am pretty sure many on this forum have managed 18"s as winter setup from tirerack

Currently in GA, we’ve had the stock summers on the car since we got it.

It looks like where we are moving gets bout 3 feet of snow a year on average. We have Summers on the stock wheels. Not sure if it’s extreme enough for the blizzacks or not.

Well if you're driving through Kansas and are interested in the OEM all season package vs true winter tires lmk

I'm not a fan of the Blizzaks, as their best winter compound is not throughout the entire tire, and wears out before the tire does. I've had good luck with the Michelin Latitude X-Ice X12, which is actually only of the few winter tires that has a tread wear warranty. It's also quiet on the highway.
