Hurricane Laura
I'm hoping all our gulf coast peeps stay safe and out of harms way. I joked earlier this week about my namesake hurricane and that if she was as pissed as I am this year it would be bad. It pains me to say Laura is forecast to be a Cat 4 this afternoon.
Be safe everyone

This one missed us but looks really bad for the gulf coast. I hope anyone near the coast there is prepared and has evacuated far inland already. Storm surge could be horrific with this one. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

It's not going to be good. Deadly storm surge and high winds. We dodged a bullet in eastern LA. Our friends have been on a project in Cameron, LA which will be taking a direct hit. The sea wall around the plant is 30ft and can withstand winds of 130mph. We will see how all that fares. Our friends moved their houseboat into the marsh. The people working on the jobs moved hundreds of trailers to Lake Charles in a parking lot. Not sure how that will do. I'm afraid it will be a mangled mess like our marinas after Katrina.

Yes, we dodged a bullet (two actually!) in SE LA. My mom is Houston but she will be fine. My wife's uncle lives in Beaumont TX which will likely see heavy damage. They have evacuated.

They are saying most of Lake Charles will flood as the Calcasieu River backs up from the storm surge... Ugly.

Yeah, she is a monster. Cameron will be annihilated. Water was already pushing in from Marco and saw Golden Meadow has been flooded since this morning. There is such an awe of the size, movement, & appearance of these storms but the destruction that comes with it is horrendous.
Edit: Now a Cat 4😞 |

You mentioned Lake Charles. Check out this graphic. Very scary. https://mobile.twitter.com/weatherch...d%3Fpage%3D210 |

Yes!
No affiliation but we subscribe to a private weather service who we find much better than the talking heads on the weather channel or anywhere else. He has called this storm correctly for over a week now, including the intensity. In fact he thinks Laura could reach cat 5 before landfall.

Key is water temp but yes, plenty warm water to fuel the intensification.

I'm a tornado guy, and live in the midwest, so people often consult me the moment the clouds darken. I figured Laura for a dud, good thing I don't predict killer hurricanes.
Hope everyone stays safe. |
